IMHO, the secret to success is cooperation, compromise and looking out for the common good just as in any good marriage. All three of which have been severely lacking in American politics for over 30 years. Hopefully this is just a phase.

The draft changed the character of the country when it was introduced, and then again when we got rid of it.

I do not know that I agree with you, but I have had that thought before.

Young people learning about public service is good for the nation. It doesn't have to be military. I'm good with Peace Corps, Americorps and any other groups that provide for the public good.

A benefit would be providing a year of college for every two years of service. People who are given something often don't appreciate it like those who had to earn it.

It is a weird time. Few people are qualified to serve in the military, and even fewer people are willing to serve. What is the nominated Secretary of Defense's solution to this problem? Throw out of the military a huge number of qualified people who want to serve as part of some sort of culture war. It is like Putin is directing our new government.

Trump only hires the best people with "best" being defined as what's best for himself and our enemies.

Trump will line his pockets with taxpayer money while weakening our intelligence and law enforcement agencies making us ripe for a terrorist attack.

I'm a child of the olden days and vac's did my generation just fine. I personally feel autism has been around for ages, it was just undiagnosed. I can remember kids who had those symptoms when I was growing up and we just called them odd or crazy. I don't like Trump so anything this guy does is gonna rub me the wrong way.
