No. I understand the social compact but I also understand that ultimately it's up to the individual to provide for themselves.

Then you contradict yourself. You can't believe that it's up to the individual to provide for him/herself then support an idea whereby the individual doesn't have to because others are forced to do it for them.

I'm not contradicting myself at all. If a safety net is available then one in need would be stupid not to take advantage of that. There are also varying degrees of safety net depending upon society and time frame. We have what we have but were it to change you've gotta do what you've gotta do.

It's not about whether people take advantage of it. It's about whether or not it should exist. You say you agreed with my statement about proper levels of government doing things then say you don't oppose something being done at a level the Constitution doesn't give authority to do it. That's contradictory.

I didn't put them on the boats. I didn't sell them or buy them. Whether you like it or not they were property for many years. I didn't put the 3/5 clause in the Constitution but I'm not going to pretend it wasn't in there. You don't like this tangent? Change it.

I'm not arguing there were no slaves....I'm just not buying into the stupid claim they weren't human beings at the time.......if nothing else your argument PROVES that abortion is wrong.......you probably won't like this analogy either, given your leanings, but its like Hitler saying the Jews weren't human beings so it was okay to gas them at Auschwitz......the argument is there, its just that rational people realize its wrong......not that I mean to imply you're rational....far from it......

Except your slave tangent, and let's throw the Auschwitz shit in there too, has nothing to do with the argument I made. You're pretending there is no difference between something which cannot survive, period, without its mother and a person who could survive but had food/water withheld from it. And you knew the difference right away but didn't want to deal with that so you went slave/Nazi.

I see the problem.......you're pretending we're having a different argument than we really are........the issue is NOT something that cannot survive without its mother.......the issue is what you really said, and I quote you precisely because I know how to use cut and paste, "If a fetus can't claim it's rights is it human?"......so what did the Jews in concentration camps, slaves in 1840s American Georgia and Alzheimer patients have in common with unborn children?.......perhaps it was that they could not claim their rights.....yes, I think they clearly all had that in common.......now the question is, are you claiming that all four are not human?.......
