Of course all of you will know ahead of time that I am an advocate for abstinence only programs but you might not know that I am an advocate for them only if taught in conjunction with being safe... Have a looksee:

"An abstinence-only education program is more effective than other initiatives at keeping sixth- and seventh-graders from having sex within a two-year period,..."

I was going to post on this when I got home and had a bit more time. The study was quite impressive following kids over years.

I dont doubt that in some segments of the population in some parts of the nation with some age groups abstinance only is the most effective approach.

I wonder what percent of those who went to Abstinance only classes and later had sex got pregnant compared to those who had instruction on contraception.

My interest is not as much focused on teens not having sex as it is focused on teens not having unwanted pregnancies.

It's in the study, man. Read it. For gawd's sakes.

I read the entire link article and nuthing about how many of those who do have sex get pregnant compared to those who were taught about contraception.!

Read it for Gawd's sakes!

Me either Onceler, but they do. As a school teacher I hear about it all the time. I swear these kids think I'm deaf or something.

I don't approve of gross words like abstinence being used on this site. Teach safe sex at the earlies age.

Read the study itself. They used different schools in the same city. In schools where they promoted and/or provided condoms girls were more likely to start sex earlier and to get pregnant. I'd search it up and link to it if I had time, maybe when I get home tomorrow. I won't be home tonight.

Id like to read it... If I have time ill look for it.

What I don't understand is the condescending false paradigm here. Why can't they be taught both abstinence and birth control? Isn't providing people (including kids) with as much usefull information as possible always the best approach?
