Accidental Racist?

Do I get what he is saying? Yes. I had not heard of the song before reading Toure's article. I admit I take Toure with a giant grain of salt on most occasions, but the lyrics he quoted and the comments he made on them made sense. I will certainly read any response by LL Cool J on what the song was supposed to be in his eyes... but from the lyrics alone, you have to say 'WTF' to both LL and Paisley.

Someone bring me my smelling salts!! I am going to faint dead away!!

Why?

To me, it seems obvious that they're coming from a more extreme point of view than their own.

" “If you don’t judge my gold chains, I’ll forget the iron chain.” "

That... was a giant WTF moment...

I thought about it after reading Toure's article and I cannot come up with anything to explain what LL Cool J was thinking.

Sorry .. LL Cool J can't defend it.

LL Cool J Talks "Accidental Racist" On Leno, Says Song "Wasn't Perfect"
excerpt --

From the "I'm Bad" rapper's commentary, he has been listening to at least some of the criticism of the song, mainly that it makes light of racism.
"The song wasn't perfect," admitted LL to Leno. "You can't fit 300 or 400 years of history in a three or four-minute song."

LL was clear in that he couldn't defend the song, but could explain some of his lyrics. One in particular was comparing a du-rag to the Confederate flag, which he adamantly said was not his intent.

"When you think about a kid like Trayvon Martin and you think about some of the things that happen in society based on clothing, when you put it in its proper context, it makes sense. I would never, ever, ever suggest to anyone that we should just forget slavery and act like that didn't happen. I understand the systemic racism that exists, I get that. But you know what, if the playing field is unlevel and if you feel it's unfair, then maybe putting down some of that baggage will help you make it up that hill a little easier."

In other words, he was just out to make some money.

Now my world is upside down. Onceler doesn't get it and Superfreak does. I am going to go have a martini. It's not that early. It really isn't.

We had a secret meeting last night on line and decided to fuck with you today. Everyone takes the opposite position they normally would.

yeah... there just was no getting around that... but thanks for his response. I was wondering what he would say.

lol... one of us certainly won't... its just not the one you think it is.

Oh really ..

The laws of Science and Physics .. and ALL known history determines that falling mass ALWAYS seeks the path of least resistance.

Which one of us doesn't want to talk about that?

and in the case of the towers, that path was straight down.

that said, lets not derail this particular thread with this... we can always start a new one.

There I will disagree... because if he was thinking about money in the long run, he would never have uttered those words. Short term gain for long term pain. He is going to have a hard time getting fans to forget that. On that point Toure was spot on.

I disagree; it won't have an effect on LL's career, and certainly nothing as dramatic as Toure suggests.

I don't get the hullabaloo on this one. To me, it's just pc running rampant again.

A. Toure' is a paid clown. I don't even trust that his name is Toure'.

B. LL is a 50 year-old rapper.

There ain't much long-term left in his career.
