The 31-year-old Florida woman who fired a warning shot at her abusive husband was sentenced Friday morning to 20 years in prison.

Alexander was convicted of three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for firing into a wall near her husband and his two young children at their Jacksonville home in 2010.

Alexander has maintained that she wasn't trying to hurt anyone and that she was standing her ground...

Alexander says that she believed she was protected that day under the state's Stand Your Ground Law, which gives people wide discretion in using deadly force to defend themselves.

What no protests from the race hustlers? I guess Al & Jesse were to busy to show up?

Corey said she had offered Alexander a plea bargain that would have resulted in a three-year prison sentence, but Alexander chose to take the case to a jury trial, where a conviction would carry a mandatory sentence under a Florida law known as "10-20-life."

She said she escaped and ran to the garage, intending to drive away. But, she said, she forgot her keys, so she picked up her gun and went back into the house. She said her husband threatened to kill her, so she fired one shot.

"I believe when he threatened to kill me, that's what he was absolutely going to do," she said. "That's what he intended to do. Had I not discharged my weapon at that point, I would not be here."

Alexander's attorneys tried to use the state law that allows people to use potentially deadly force anywhere they feel reasonably threatened with serious harm or death.

But a previous judge in the case rejected the request, saying Alexander's decision to go back into the house was not consistent with someone in fear for her safety, according to the Florida Times Union newspaper.

Silly boys. Only white people can stand their ground

This may be helpful as precedent in the Zimmerman case, though

After reading the entire article, it seems she would've been better off had she killed the guy.

The NAACP's Jacksonville chapter has thrown its support behind a woman who will be sentenced Monday in a shooting where she claimed self-defense against an abusive husband under the state's Stand Your Ground law.
Ulitmately, this may lead to a revamp of the ridiculous gun laws in Fla.

There's a mandatory sentencing for discharging a weapon, even when nobody was injured/killed.

It seems the case hinged on whether the jury felt she actually feared for her life. This, because she re entered the house to get her car keys.

So you can pursue someone, gun them down, and walk...but you cannot discharge a firearm in your home to ward off an aggressor?

Again..had she killed him, and claimed he attacked her...she'd probably walk.

I told you guys that stand your ground doesn't apply to blacks or to women. In fact I believed that if the bitches started shooting all the men wHo abuse or attempt to abuse them, we'd get rid of these laws fast. What even I didn't foresee was that the white male power structure would just outright refuse to apply these white dude laws to blacks and women.

And that they'd get away with it. Easily.

I guess there's a lesson there for women dealing with abusive men then. Let's hope the word goes out. Not that I really believe they would treat her like they would a white man anyway, but it's important to stack the deck in your favor when it's so stacked against you.

The JPP he-men give Zimmerman a pass for killing a kid, and condemn Alexander to 20 years imprisonment for shooting a wall.

The JPP he-men think it's acceptable for a fear-filled "neighborhood watch captain" to kill an unarmed kid, but not to fire a warning shot at an abuser who admits he was threatening a woman.

um... it was his home too... I think the fact that she fired in the direction of two kids is what made the case against her.

That said, the guy admitted to having hit her, so he deserved to be shot.

That is such nonsense.

1) While he was indeed an abusive asshole and deserved to be shot, it was his home too.

2) She fired in the direction of two kids. Fuck the two adults. You shoot at kids and you go to jail.

3) That said, that prick deserves to be in jail too.

Bullshit she didn't fire at the kids. She fired a bullet into a wall. If she were a white man she'd never have seen the inside of a jail cell. What's more, you know that.
