AI bubble burst

First off, thank you. That is a good article.

Where I disagree is in the returns. Data centers, especially Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure already generating trillion dollar returns over the course of a decade. Amazon particularly has been successful in selling products that leverage AI. The same holds true with Google, which powers Android Auto and Apple Car play that are sold in nearly all new vehicles - whether you you them or not.

I agree with the author that Meta is a basket case and will face plant, but that isn't a complete collapse, it is a single, albeit large and significant company, making missteps that will eventually lead to bankruptcy. Apple is likely to suffer the same fate.

I don't see a bubble so much as a reshuffling.
What you need to ask yourself is: "What are they making their returns on?"
Crawling phone contacts and interests? Monitoring every little facet of human being's lives?
Yeah, it's pretty much that.
:dunno:

AI is ass. No self-driving trucks, robotic assembly is OK.
No deep analytical AI thinking, no.
I've witnessed it, and it's ass.
I made my cyber bones on the financial boards exposing pump and dump schemes. I was among the first to call dotcom a scam yet still got invited to their parties and even did side jobs for them.

AI will need a massive bailout from taxpayers who are barely buoyant.

I already said.

AWS and Azure are printing money. The are already trillion dollar markets. That puts Amazon and Microsoft in great positions. And of course, Nvidia who is powering these AI driven data centers.

These data centers then drive things like Alexa, which is the consumer research and marketing force of the universe. Even if you don't have Alexa or Ring in your home, Alexa still collects data on you every time you buy anything on Amazon, any time you click on an ad.

80 million cars and trucks running Googles software - all licensed for a fee.

My new washer/dryer machine has AI that senses the clothes type and figures out how to wash and dry them, all run through my phone. Alerting me when the load is done. Not to mention the Shark running around vacuuming the house.

This isn't the Algore Net - AI is hugely profitable as we speak. Will there be losers? Of course, Meta and Apple are very likely to fail. Amazon leads the pack with Microsoft right on their heels.

I saw a report the other day that China is actually using AI in very interesting ways....and profiting from it.......In America AI only makes loses.

Dumbass CCP troll.

AI makes a fortune. You Chinese will NEVER catch up, regardless of how much technology you steal. It moves faster than you can rip us off.

I'm an American, like Nigger Jim, ok? I just wanna go fishin', too.
Yeah. I'm American. You're antithetical to everything we are. Fuck You.
No one comes close to AI in America. Elon uses it to recover rocket boosters using a tower and a catch mechanism. People in general use an open source version (ChatGPT) to augment their browsing and analyze databases. I've found Grok to be better at diagnosing automotive issues. The general purpose robots planning to be released soon will be using Grok as a coordinated network to share their skills that people teach them.

Waymo uses AI to guide their self driving cars. AI has improved some automation in normal cars as well.

There is no need to fear AI. It can only do what people tell it to do. It is not sentient and never will be.

The movie industry and other writers love to write how AI becomes 'sentient' and takes over the world. Such stories have been around as long as computers. They don't understand computers very well, just like movies have no concept of the actual effects of guns, and have no concept of how aircraft fly or crash.

They live in a completely artificial world they built for themselves. Too many people (including those on JPP) think the movies are real life.

The nice thing about AI is that you don't have to use it if you don't want to. It is there to be used, however, and you may benefit from it without even realizing it (better timing of traffic lights, for example).

China has also constructed AI, but it's woefully limited, since the Chinese government desires to severely restrict information their people receive. About it's only advantage to China is that it's written in Mandarin.

The so-called 'AI bubble' doesn't exist.

Has the tech industry made mistakes with AI? Sure. One is firing too many people as tech retools, and becoming too dependent on AI, but this will eventually self correct. Another is constructing AI networks that requires too much equipment. This too will self correct.

AI is here to stay. One might as well learn to live with it. There is certainly no need to fear it. It's a fad right now, but it will find it's place that's sensible, much like the web did.

The US doesn't have the electrical grid to support AI, mass surveillance, EV charging stations, and crypto. Something's gotta give.

AI makes it money mostly on subscription services and in some cases advertising (easily filtered).
For example:

* Closed caption services on video broadcasts no longer require some human to type as people talk on the show. It's automated. TV stations and others buy this subscription service.
* It's possible to build driverless taxi services, such as Waymo and for use as airport shuttles (a repetitive route). People pay to use the taxis.
* It reduces workload of airline pilots, by automating navigation and even updating radio channels automatically as the flight progresses. Airlines pay to equip their aircraft in this way.
* It provides automated audio driven command systems such as Alexa and Google Home (Amazon seems to be currently winning in this market!). People buy these devices and even sometimes buy skills for them.
* It provides better monitoring of your own house for security purposes. People buy these subscription services and the security system.
* It will support the soon to be released general purpose home robots, allowing them to navigate and learn tasks around the house. People will be buying and leasing these robots.
* Better general purpose AI engines such as ChatGPT than you can get by using the free version. This is a paid subscription.

The Alexa service does not listen for anything except it's wake-up command when it is not being used. This is easily verified on any network that doesn't include the usual Windows blather noise. NO packets are sent until you wake the thing up.
