All this talk about the death of the Republican party.... They will return!

So many have declared the Republican party dead, or at least relegated to a future of being at most a regional party.... But I disagree.

The Republican party will emerge very strong. Finally the radical wing that was ushered in after the election of Ronald Regan will be oustered, the moderates will win the day. A strong, small government, finscally conservative, socially moderate (liberal by todays conservative standards) will emerge and AMERICA will be better off for it!

Or... They will try to keep the Linbaugh, Gingrich, Cheney, wing of the party and the predictions of death might be correct. Hopefully the radical wing is dying off.

Got news for ya, kid. Nixon wasn't exactly a bowl of cherries.....in fact, many of the little SOB's that were floating around with the Shrub were hanging around with Daddy Bush and Ronnie Raygun....all in the family!

Some/a lot of what you wrote is pretty detailed oriented and not something I would say is regularly talked about as GOP myths. You seem to be talking more policy positions or you are phrasing things in a way a Democrat would want to show Republican positions. So i'm a little confused (which is a common occurance for me).

I tried to be as clear as I could be, but it won't be the first time people have had a problem understanding me.
My examples are of what I believe the GOP would like the people to believe, and where I believe they mislead us. For example, Supply Side has failed and preceded a recession each time it has been effected, yet under one guise or another it is still their prime economic path. For decades they back-tracked, fought, and overlooked CAFE standards until our car companies were no longer competitive with foreign companies in technology or economy standards. Camry, Accord, etc. could outperform and outhandle our cars while, at the same time, they could do it with more efficient, economical engines. Can anyone believe the working middle class is aided by the type of global trade they want us to accept? To what degree has increased productivity benefitted the workers as opposed to corporate bottom lines? What would the GOP have given us in place of Social Security or Medicare, if anything at all? How much is profit(code name: free market) their prime aim in healthcare?
Etc.,etc., etc.
On each example I used you can apply the same logic to the statement and reach your own conclusion as to what is fact and what is myth. They are what I believe they want us to believe but are not, in fact, the true policy.

Ok, got it. Each item you bring up (to me) is worthy of a policy discussion on its own. They are good topics. There a couple of ways they can be viewed in my opinion. One is a stand alone debate from a Republican perspective on the issues and from a Republican vs. Democrat perspective because there are similarities on many of the issues you listed between the two parties (or at least people within the parties).

I agree with you. I've known you long enough to know that you come from a Libertarian, not Republican, viewpoint. There are some examples that could be pinned on both parties but most I mentioned are exclusively GOP. I think the Dems have adopted what they think is a politically correct trade policy alongside the GOP, to their detriment.

Lakers vs Magic?

Note to Belme, "the little guy" is retarded beyond belief, but regardless, the government should not pick sides, aka class warfare.

The reason why the Democratic Party survives is because "the little guy" has always been easy prey for baseless rhetoric, and while the DP brought about the fall of the early republic, and has survived great ethical dilemmas to this day. That is why truly great parties such as the Federalists and Whigs have died (and the GOP appears to be dying) while the Dems live on in infamy.

Yeah, I was working in the Silicon Valley in the late '90's and one of the reasons a lot of the tech companies really liked Clinton was because of his trade policies (sorry having flashbacks how crazy that time was, companies with little revenue but triple digit stock prices. no way it could sustain itself but it was fun while it lasted).

Growing up in the Bay Area it is ingrained in you to dislike So Cal and L.A. (especially the sports teams) so I hate the Lakers and was very happy to see them lose tonight. I was born in Ohio and most of the family is from there so I am rooting for the Cavs although the Magic are legit. They are a good team.

I grew up in Chicago so the Bulls are ingrained in me. Since watching Phil Jackson during the championship years, I think he's the smartest coach ever who raises his teams to a higher level at precisely the right time by handling his stars perfectly. He's handling Kobe in exactly the way he did MJ. I'm neutral on Lakers/Nuggets, but to me, Jackson is the difference. The Magic are the closest pro hoop team to me so I like to see them win though I hate the town. No. 2 son lives there.

I would agree with you somewhat except for the fact that, riding around these parts and seeing rundown 80s and 90s pickup trucks or other clunkers still sporting their bush 04 or McCain/Palin stickers makes you wonder about the intelligence of people supporting those who care not a bit about their lives or their problems.
You're right, but the government has already chosen sides..............against them.

yeah, and the south shall rise again starting with texas :pke:

ok, now that i got that out of my system, the gop really needs to return to its roots or do something other than be a mouthpiece for a strong well organized minority that will take it down

Phil Jackson hs been blessed with coaching some of the best talent in the NBA, but when he doesn't have that talent he's reduced to an everyday coach and an ordinary record.

Had the Nuggets hit their free throws in game one they'd be up two zip.

The Lakers could come out of the Denver home stand down 3 to 1.

Kobe cannot check Carmelo Anthony who is stronger.

Jackson is handling Kobe like he did MJ .. just get out of the way and let them do their thing.

I'm loving it. If the Nuggets can pull a complete game together it will be a blowout. If Billups will just make his free throws... (clutch time and he's laughing at missing free throws)...

My favorite play... Kobe's elbow delivering the ball into Billup's hands for an easy layup.

Ditto on the favorite play.

I like the city of Denver (although I've never been there) and I like the state of Colorado. I'm happy with the success of the Nuggets and hope they win it all.

Think about it, Billups and Anthony could have, should have been playing together in Detroit .. if only Dumars had a brain.

'Cause basketball is life my brother. :)

So you agree on the impending death of conservatism?

Hey BAC, check out a book called Black Men Can't Shoot.

It's written by a guy I went to high school with and he and I were on the basketball team together. He is now a professor at UC Riverside. Dr. Scott Brooks.

It just came out and I haven't got my copy yet so I obviously haven't read it but the reviews have been good. Basically he coached I believe a summer league team in Philadelphia for five years or so and wrote about the experience focusing on the kids on his team and their struggles, triumphs etc. Check out the review on Amazon or anywhere else.

Anyhow Scott Brooks is a great guy really dedicating to working with and teaching the youth.

I think it depends on how you define "conservatism". If you define it as radical religious people seeking to retroactively ban gay marriage and other sundry "immoralities" through legislative fiat, then I tend to agree. If you define it as responsible, more efficient, and smaller government advocates who seek to protect the rights of individuals that were guaranteed in the constitution... then no. I do not agree.

And I think if the Nuggets get past the Lakers they will take it all.
