Maryland educator accused of dealing drugs during school hours now faces federal charges

Sarah Magid was working as a first-grade teacher at Charles Drew Elementary, a public school in Silver Spring.

A Montgomery County first-grade teacher who was arrested for allegedly selling the drugs that killed a D.C. man is now facing federal charges.

Sarah Magid, 34, was teaching at Charles Drew Elementary, a public school in Silver Spring, while she was also allegedly trafficking various types of narcotics, including fentanyl, for months, district court documents say. She was arrested by Montgomery County Police on multiple charges for narcotics distribution.

Now, the U.S. District Attorney’s Office for the district of Maryland announced that she is being charged federally with distributing fentanyl that resulted in the serious bodily injury and death of a victim.

When investigators looked into his death, they found text messages between him and Magid going back to January. In the messages, they set up multiple meetings to exchange drugs. Two days before his death, messages show him planning to meet with Magid so they could exchange pills that had been pressed to appear like 30 milligrams of oxycodone hydrochloride. But court documents say the pills actually contained fentanyl.
Soon after the meeting and transaction, the man was found dead, court documents say.

“Horrifying,” Cheshire resident Kim Shaw said. “It’s horrifying.”

“She’s entitled to her opinion, but to rant like that being a school teacher, that concerns me,” parent and grandparent Carmela Muratori said.

In the now-viral video, Annie Dunleavy threatened to "fight" and "hurt people who voted for Donald Trump".

Samantha Rosenberg, the chair of the Cheshire Board of Education, said in a written statement that the board recognizes “the intense emotions this situation has stirred.”

“The Board of Education is united in finding the teacher’s behavior reprehensible and unacceptable, and we are horrified and deeply offended by statements made in the video,” the statement reads in part. “As representatives of this community, we demanded an immediate response and are grateful to Superintendent, Dr. Solan and all parties involved for their swift actions to ensure a resolution. This incident has been treated with the utmost care, and every step taken has aligned with legal and ethical standards. “

Freshman Secondary school students at @ISD745 in Minnesota received a questionnaire asking them how they would communicate their desire to be more adventurous in bed.

Travis Okerlund, superintendent of the school district, admitted that the questionnaire was “inappropriate” and that the teacher would be subject to a “disciplinary process.”

On Nov. 15, the district sent a follow-up email to parents saying an investigation found the questions' inclusion in the lesson was not "intentional", though still negligent and a violation of its conduct policy.

"I want to sincerely apologize for the concern and distress this incident may have caused you and your students," the statement said.

The district is not identifying the teacher involved.

Right now in the US there are just over 4 million teachers in k -12. If just one-tenth of one percent are criminals and pedio pervs, that's 4000 teachers. While that is on the face of it horrific, I think it's insanely unreasonable that we aren't going to have some teachers that are criminals pop up in our system simply because of how big its become.

Given how often they whine about their pay, you have to wonder why they continue to work in schools full of impressionable children.

I suspect I know why.
