A Missouri teacher is facing 19 charges including statutory rape after authorities say she offered minors money for sex and bought them marijuana and alcohol.
Prosecutors in Pulaski County have charged Carissa Jenna Smith, 30, with sexual trafficking, statutory sodomy, statutory rape and patronizing prostitution, according to court documents reviewed by USA TODAY.
According to a probable cause statement submitted by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, the woman, who is married and has children, paid money to a child for sex and also bought them marijuana and alcohol.

A teacher has been arrested and is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with two high school students, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
MCSO received a tip alleging a teacher was sending inappropriate messages to a high school student in Manatee County.
Detectives learned the suspect, 39-year-old Joseph Prevatte, sent messages back and forth with the victim on Instagram for a few weeks, and that some messages had a sexual undertone.
Prevatte also sent the victim an image of himself unclothed.
During MCSO’s investigation, it was discovered that the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was also investigating Prevatte for an inappropriate relationship involving a minor victim in Hillsborough County.
HCSO deputies arrested Prevatte on Nov. 19 for Lewd or Lascivious Battery and Harmful Explicit Communication to a Minor.
The investigation continues and detectives believe it is possible that there could be additional victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact MCSO at 941-747-3011.

Teacher charged with assaulting 5-year-old student
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a teacher on Tuesday on charges of assaulting a student.
Deputies report 51-year-old Heather Lynn Fish, a teacher at Grassy Pond Elementary, assaulted a 5-year-old student on Nov. 8.
She placed her hand on top of their mouth, shook them by their wrist and dragged them by their feet, deputies said.
The Cherokee County School District said that the child’s parents and law enforcement were immediately contacted following the incident and that Fish was placed on administrative leave.
She later asked and was allowed to resign during the course of the sheriff’s office’s investigation, the district said.
The district will notify the state board of education regarding her charges.
Fish was charged with assault and battery, third degree and booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center.

PORTLAND, Ore. — St. Helens High School students return to school Tuesday after a week of protests on campus due to a teacher sex abuse scandal where a current and former educator were both accused of abusing a total of nine students.
One of the teachers taught choir at the school up until his arrest last Tuesday, even though police had notified the district he was under investigation nearly two months prior.
Students walked out of class Thursday morning with anger and outrage over how the district handled the police investigation.
St. Helens High School closed Thursday, Friday and Monday amid the student-led protests on campus that included both parents and community members.
In response, the school district placed Superintendent Scot Stockwell and St. Helens High School Principal Katy Wagner on paid administrative leave on Friday. The chair of the school board also resigned that same day.
