An American Energy Initiative for the 21st Century - Part I

Well said and quite right, Solitary! My compliments, indeed.

This highlights the fact that while oil companies make tremendous profits, they also incur tremendous expense and make significant long term investments in order to do so. In addition to having to pay on leases regardless of their commercial value, costs for the industry have soared into the stratosphere. For example, a deep-water drill ship that cost $125,000 a day four years ago now runs $600,000+. And that's if you can find one available.

I'm interested to see how Part II will be received later today and appreciate everyone's comments and insights.

Why has the price of a deep water drill ship quadrupled in only 4 years ? Let me make a stab at it. The price of oil ?

$400,000 a day for a drill ship. Why Why is it speculation is it evil people doing it. Movon.moron says so.

Supply and demand, you have to get on a waiting list to pay $400,000 a day. In the 80's we had our own rigs, but you democratic anti business retards got fat and bought SUV's while we got kicked in the balls and laid off by the thousands.
WHAT COMES AROUND GOES AROUND.
SEE YA AT THE PUMP!!!

I have not bought gas guzzlers. Still driving an 18 yr old subie because it still does the job.
I also bought a hybrid, but that is a business thing.
I do have one old beat up 87 4wd pickup that is for the farm and gets driven less than 100 miles a month hauling stuff.

I would rather have a nice home and cement pond to swim in than a slick car.

But then I know I am a bit odd.
