The headline of the San Francisco Chronicle's website (sfgate.com) shows a picure of Newt with the caption

Gay? Then vote for Obama.
Newt Gingrich's response to a question stuns, disheartens gay Iowa professor


Here is the blog write-up which I posted earlier:

Republican Presidential contender Newt Gingrich had one message for a gay Iowa man: Don’t bother with me, vote Obama.

Or so says a professor who met Gingrich at the Smokey Row coffee house in Iowa, according to the Des Moines Register.

“I asked him if he’s elected, how does he plan to engage gay Americans. How are we to support him? And he told me to support Obama,” Scott Arnold, an associate professor of writing at William Penn University told the paper.

“When you ask somebody a question and you expect them to support all Americans and have everyone’s general interest,” Arnold continued. “It’s a little bit frustrating and disheartening when you’re told to support the other side. That he doesn’t’ need your support.”



Gingrich has said he supports a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage and that same-sex marriage “is a temporary aberration that will dissipate.”

You can watch the video of the exchange and it is completely different. Gingrich tells the guy there are many issues where he and the gay community can see eye-to-eye but if gay marriage is your most important issue vote for Obama. That is a big big difference than saying vote for Obama because you are gay like the headline implies. And if I'm not mistaken isn't Obama against gay marriage? It's a total hack job by the Chronicle.

It's a bummer to see stuff like this, but it's the new media. It's all about sales & not ethics.

The first time I read it I was pissed at Newt for his response. I have a gay Aunt and I love her and her partner and Newt doesn't need to act that way towards them. But then I watch the video and it's totally different than what the headline and blog reported. WTF.
 
It's there to sell, Onceler is right about that. It's a business of the nature of businesses. However i don't think that its as much a hack as the OP implies, what's the title gonna say, "If you want gay marriage as your biggest concern in politics right now Gingrich may not be your best presidential candidate?" Who's gonna bother to read that article?

The heading could have some relationship to the truth.
 
It's simplified, and dramatized, that's kinda the nature of a heading. Gingrich told the man that if he was most interested in gay marriage he should vote for obama.
 
Cawacko, you sound like a USC frat boy. Going to huff po for balance is like looking at fox for praise for Obama stimulus.
