Another racist republican politician

The Republican National Committeeman in Arizona used the phrase "shucking and jiving" on Thursday in a Facebook post intended to mock the Obama administration's decision to delay certain parts of the Affordable Care Act.

Bruce Ash used the phrase in a post that linked to a BuzzFeed story with the headline, "White House Delays Obamacare While Attacking Republicans For Trying To Delay Obamacare."

"Some people wonder why I cannot figure out why I believe Obama is shucking and jiving on ObamaCare," Ash wrote.

"Shucking and jiving" is a slavery-era term that has been used derisively toward African-Americans, including President Barack Obama. Sarah Palin used the phrase last year to criticize Obama's handling of the deadly terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya. Earlier this month, right-wing shock jock Rush Limbaugh said Obama's plan on Syria should be called "Operation Shuck and Jive."

History of the phrase:

Just enough for them to get the racist insulting message across but not so much as they can't deny it.

Racism and hate for Obama is going to destroy you all.

Chris Matthews used the phrase in 2010, and then called Palin a racist for using it a couple of years later.

I don't think use of the phrase is enough to warrant a charge of "racism," personally.

It doesn't justify what was said but it does take away from the partisan nature of the attack when Democrats are making similar comments.

Been a long time since a Democrat used it; and he didn't use it on the president of the united states.

But that's fine, you can lie to yourself and say that repubs aren't racist.

Yeah, back in 2010... Long time there.

Maybe he should just stick with the current Democrat rhetoric and just call him a Terrorist, Hijacker, Kidnapper, etc.

I think it warrants a charge of saying racist shit. Whether the person that said it is racist is another matter.

I'm not lying to myself at all and you'll notice I didn't justify what was said. What I did say was when Democrats make similar racist comments to Obama it takes away the partisan power of attacking Republicans over it. There are racist Republicans. There are racist Democrats.

And you really are going to say the comments are different because Cuomo said it about Presidential Candidate Obama and not President Obama? That makes it somehow not as bad?

Oh, does that rhetoric offend you, Damo? Maybe you could explain how it doesn't accurately describe the behavior of the House Republicans and their Pied Piper, Ted Cruz.

And you said it didn't warrant a charge of "racism." So . . .

I've tried to explain a million times on here, that a person can say something racist, and not actually be a racist. A person can say something sexist, and not actually be sexist. You can say something unfeminist without actually being anti-feminist.

But apparently there is just no gettig this through around here.

This particular phrase, used about a black person, it's pretty racist. It's flippantly racist. It's very possible a person using it isn't filled with racist hate, but boy are they clueless.

Totally agree. I'd add you get better results by pointing out that a person said something racist instead of telling the person that they are a racist becuase of something that they said. (I'm not speaking about you personally, just as a general matter.)

I completely agree with you.

You see the subject though calls the person a racist for making a racist comment. Maybe Tk knows more about this individual's background who made the comment but I would surmise she probably doesn't.
