* Act one was the sheriff's office doing something stupid against his wife involving false charges. Those got dropped.
* Joel files a public records request for details on the case after the charges are dropped. The sheriff's office tries to overcharge him for the data. He fights that, wins.
* He goes to the sheriff's office to meet with the same moron of a "public affairs officer" who had tried to overcharge him for the data. Joel gets permission to pack first. On meeting with the public affairs guy to get the data, the public affairs cop literally attacks Joel the moment he sees Joel's legally holstered gun. It was admittedly a mild attack but if any of us stripped somebody of their weapons like that we'd be lawfully shot. Public affairs guy threatens to yank Joel's permit, apologizes for the assault, asks Joel to put his guns in Joel's car. Joel complies, comes back in, gets his data.
* Over the next month Joel complains about the assault (including his hidden-cam video of said assault!). He makes a formal complaint to the sheriff, he talks publicly about it, he makes the video public:

* A couple of days after that Joel and the guy who assaulted him do a joint press conference:

He's not pulling any punches...
* All of this pisses off the sheriff's office no end. It takes 'em another month or so to figure out what they can possibly charge Joel with to do damage control and payback. The latest charges are what they were able to scrape up. For a bunch of reasons, if the law of that state is followed it's not going to work and Joel is going to come out of this with major, major cash for assault, false arrest, malicious prosecution, 2A violations and more.
