Any WNBA Fans Here?

I've been enjoying the skyrocketing ratings and fan base since Catlin Clark entered the league! I've also enjoyed the rivalry between Clark and Angel Reese.

The difference, to me: Reese is behaving her age and Clark is just keeping her head down to her own business and setting records.
Not the least but interested. I mean I'm glad for clark and the league if they can put a good product on the floor. Thus far the NBA has carried that league. It just proves when there is actual talent people will watch.

I don't know if it's fair to claim "the NBA carries the WNBA" since viewership and attendance have skyrocketed.

NEW YORK -- The WNBA once again had strong metrics this year as the league had its most-watched regular season in 21 years and its highest average attendance since 2018.

Viewership was up 21% over last year across its national television partners, and the league's average attendance of 6,615 fans was the WNBA's highest since the 2018 season. An expanded schedule to 40 games this season helped the league gain its highest total attendance in 13 years at 1,587,488.

"The significant rise in key business metrics is a testament to the captivating games being played and the WNBA's expanding appeal," WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said. "This surge in interest not only showcases the immense talent and athleticism on the court but also highlights the compelling narratives that continue to emerge about the players and the league."

Are you watching the softball finals?

We go to the local high school girls' softball games. My daughter played in high school and college, and still plays in a local womens' city league. Some of those gals are wicked fast pitchers. 60-70 mph+ . Seen this gal play a game:

AI Overview

Softball Pitcher Monica Abbott Signs Record $1 Million ...

The highest paid softball player is NiJaree Canady, who signed a $1 million Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal with Texas Tech. This is the highest amount paid to a college softball player, surpassing previous records like Montana Fouts' $136,000 NIL deal. Monica Abbott was previously known as the highest paid player in professional softball, signing a $1 million, six-year contract with the Scrap Yard Dawgs.

AI Overview

Nijaree Canady, a pitcher for Stanford University, throws her fastball at speeds of around 75 mph. She also has a changeup that she throws at a slower speed, which she's been using more effectively as a sophomore. Some reports indicate she has thrown up to 77 mph previously.

Don't know why that pic is what the AI picked out for her, she's not white. The pic is maybe Pickens?

Nah, it's Abbot.

Today's game sure isn't what it used to be when I played....I couldn't touch one of those pitches...lol
Glad you still support the local teams...lots of fun to watch...
Canady pitched last night-she's incredible...what a game it was...OU came back at the end, but it just wasn't enough...fantastic teams....those Lubbock girls are going to be hard to beat...;)

Canady has an arm that is just super-human; it should be, for a million bucks and a steal from Stanford. I've never heard of anybody choosing to leave Stanford for a West Texas team, even for that kind of money. Hope it works out for her education and networking wise.

I think she made the right choice...
She's probably more at home at Texas Tech...she's from Kansas...Stanford might have been a bit too "stuffy"...lol

Viewership has only recently skyrocketed with the arrival of Clark. Who do you think kept the wnba afloat for the 28 years before she showed up?

Please note what I said in my prior post - I believe we're in agreement - attendance and viewership have skyrocketed with the advent of CC.

For the purposes of clarity you said:

The NBA has carried and as noted in my link the NBA will continue to carry the WNBA. The appearance of Clark is no doubt a huge boon for the WNBA but it will be a long time before the WNBA is a money making prospect. I hope for their sake they get more clark quality players but until then it's the NBA that's keeping the lights on for them.
