trump inherited a lot of money, and then had more debt forgiveness than he has net worth. That means had he paid back all his debt, he would be at a negative net worth. In other words, the only "business success" he had is ripping other people off of their investment.

They did starting shortly after Obama was elected. That continued to be the case right up to Trump's first win. It took hold again when Trump lost to Biden.
