AP poll: Majority harbor prejudice against blacks

The idea that people react differently to images of people that look different is hardly cause for alarm. Its an innate biological reaction from our tribal days, which evolutionary wise, were last week.

In one specific instance, no it is not reason for alarm. That it is growing in the aggregate is a reason for concern. We need to quit pretending that racism or simply racial bias is a thing of the past or it will continue to creep back up on us.

This board is crawling with flag waving racists. Well, actually I am guessing there are only 3 of them and they just make themselves seem more numerous.

Yeah, then you can blame the "real problems" on their hoodies, haircut and clothes they were wearing and ignore the racist attitudes lying underneath.
Or I could blame the media who seem to show an inordinate number of minority mugshots. But you seem to miss the point, my definition of a real problem, isn't mental racism. But that one on the backburner until we can solve Human trafficking, the drug trade, financial crisis and the invasion of half the countries in the middle east.

If you've got an answer to those, then I might worry about how some people micro judge blacks(and it is only blacks you note, they dont care about other races).

I'm wondering if a poll or study that produced data that showed Romney in the lead would be questioned quite so rigorously by JPP righties...

Liberals aren't crazy or playing the race card when we bring this up. I know it's just one poll but still depressing.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Racial attitudes have not improved in the four years since the United States elected its first black president, an Associated Press poll finds, as a slight majority of Americans now express prejudice toward blacks whether they recognize those feelings or not.

Those views could cost President Barack Obama votes as he tries for re-election, the survey found, though the effects are mitigated by some Americans' more favorable views of blacks.

Racial prejudice has increased slightly since 2008 whether those feelings were measured using questions that explicitly asked respondents about racist attitudes, or through an experimental test that measured implicit views toward race without asking questions about that topic directly.

In all, 51 percent of Americans now express explicit anti-black attitudes, compared with 48 percent in a similar 2008 survey. When measured by an implicit racial attitudes test, the number of Americans with anti-black sentiments jumped to 56 percent, up from 49 percent during the last presidential election. In both tests, the share of Americans expressing pro-black attitudes fell.

"As much as we'd hope the impact of race would decline over time ... it appears the impact of anti-black sentiment on voting is about the same as it was four years ago," said Jon Krosnick, a Stanford University professor who worked with AP to develop the survey.

Most Americans expressed anti-Hispanic sentiments, too. In an AP survey done in 2011, 52 percent of non-Hispanic whites expressed anti-Hispanic attitudes. That figure rose to 57 percent in the implicit test. The survey on Hispanics had no past data for comparison.

The AP surveys were conducted with researchers from Stanford University, the University of Michigan and NORC at the University of Chicago.

'An estimated 201.5 million U.S. citizens age 18 or over will be
eligible to vote Nov. 2, although many are not now registered. Of
these, about 55 million are registered Republicans. About 72 million
registered Democrats.

Pew Research Center also says in more than 13,000 interviews conducted so far in 2012,
35% of registered voters identify with the Democratic Party,
28% with the Republican Party and
33% as independents.

Logic tells us that in an unbiased survey, at good portion of these bigots MUST have been registered Democrats and Independents....so
lets not jump to conclusions that cannot be proven one way or the other.....
we all know that bias exists and probably always will.....and that bias exists in the black and asian communities too.....
even between different cultures within the same race.

This is why playing the race card for every and all disagreement with the Obama administration is lame at best....though that doesn't seem to register with the left.
There are issues in play that have absolutely nothing to do with the presidents race.

The point is not to wonder, how can we do better on this test of bias. The issue is that these attitudes do have an impact on various social issues and the study is intended to measure the attitudes.

"Solve human trafficking, the drug trade, financial crisis and the invasion of half the countries in the middle east." If by solve you mean eliminate, we can't or won't likely be able to. Just like we can't eliminate all racial/cultural bias. We can do better and that is all.

It is silly to ignore all other problems and argue that we must all have a singular focus on your list without any consideration of the underlying factors. Just about everything you mention is significantly impacted by racial/cultural bias.

It seems people are becoming a little more bold in expressing racist and culturally biased attitudes. I think it has a lot to do with 9/11 and fear.

With President Obama and the Liberals taking EVERY opportunity to make things about race, to play the race card, to instigate racial divisiveness wherever they can, it's not surprising this statistic has risen in the past 4 years. The really AMAZING thing is, four years ago, you sold the idea that Obama being elected president would somehow heal old wounds and bring us closer together, and your own admitted results show he has failed at that. Seems like a really odd point to make, but I guess it's desperation time.

Why is Blabo so reluctant to admit rightwing racism is reality?

Poor Blabo.

Who said that? Who is "you?" Is that the stereotypical "liberal" that you blame everything on?

Thanks for stopping by to prove the point that Republicans are extremely biased.

Don't ask him to back up his rants with evidence.

The Dix "doesn't do links"...

There it is! Hi white guilt.

Here's my view on racism, and it's probably going to get me flamed by legion, since he calls me a racist no matter what. Overt Racism is bad, beating up gays with baseball bats, shooting Sikh Temples, lynching black people, shooting Latinos, all bad. Covert Racism is bad behavior, making snide jokes about race and religion, is something that should not be encouraged. Cultural attitudes are slightly dumb, views on blacks as better athletes, Jews as better bankers, Muslims as hostile and zealous, not true but very built into the media driven society. And then below that, we have our "micro expressions" where seeing a face triggers a reaction, Gonna say this right now, if I see a four hundred pound Samoan, I am definitely going to be more wary of him that a four hundred pound white guy, instant situation assessment, and as long as I don't wander up to him and start making racial comments, I don't think he has any position to complain. Live and let live, don't try to police thoughts and don't try to force super political correctness because you're going to alienate more than you help.

I called it. This is a tacit admission that Oblahblah is losing. Now they will just blame racism because it couldn't possibly be his record or policies. Nope, the white folks hates dem selves some negroes.

I won't be lectured on race by members of a political party that created the KKK, Jim Crow Laws, filibustered Civil Rights and had as one of its leading members a former recruiter for the KKK.

The left meltdown is just gearing up. Pass the popcorn

You called what? That people would keep discussing cultural issues? Or that people would continue to recognize that the GOP is filled with racists? Oh, what a sage you are.

I predict that somebody will talk about sports soon.

No I called the fact that once it dawned on you libtardiots that Odummycocksucker and Plugs Biden were going to lose you would run immediately to the race card.

You can't understand why anyone wouldn't vote for your boy and love him and be devoted to him like you are. So you have no choice but to blame "racism" and try to spook people.

The first halfrican American president is finished

this survey proves absolutely nothing

i wonder why the AP does not conduct a survey among blacks with regards to whites

another bullshit attempt to stir up racial tensions

No, Christie, liberals are actually still crazy and playing the race card. Also, since it needs to be said ever now and again:

FUCK THE LEFT
