Are the Movies Liberal?

There has been more and more smoking lately. Even back 20 years ago, with Battlestar Galactica(the remake) there was smoking. There had not been smoking for 25 years, and then suddenly in the last 20 years you get smoking being sometimes glorified.

Drug use is becoming more problematic.
That happens as societies fall apart.

Republicans are now pushing nicotine pouches people put in their mouth. And we all have heard of Vance's(or whatever he is calling himself) support for prescription opioids. Republicans really seem to want people addicted to drugs.

I do not know that it will cause society to fall apart, but I do know all the rioters who died on January 6th were high on drugs. It appears the Republicans distributed drugs before the riot.

Democrats are the ones pushing for decriminalization of drugs and handing out free needles...

Some Democrats support decriminalizing drugs, as do most libertarians. Usually needles are exchanged, not handed out free. The idea is to stop the transmission of disease, without adding to the number of needles.

What I have never heard of is handing out drugs before a riot... Until Republicans did it.

That is because drugs are here. You have to deal with them realistically The Dems want rehab facilities and drug assistance. As long as Americans use drugs, somebody will supply them. There are billions of dollars to be made.
Jail does not solve drug problems.
Providing drugs and decriminalization cuts down on the crime and violence .
The present system has been in effect since Nixon and the problem just gets worse.

Well, opium dens and the like don't work either. Legalizing them doesn't solve the issue, it greatly exacerbates it.

My personal solution would be to legalize some, make others so illegal that getting caught gets you life, and for those legalized we do this:

In order to use them you have to get a "Drug Abuser" license. The license is very low cost, and that fee can be waved for the indigent. With one you can abuse the legalized drug of your choice to your heart's content. The license also stipulates YOU are responsible for all costs associated with use, including side effects and the cost of health care and emergency services if these become necessary. YOU pay for all that.
The license is also public information and can be used as a reason to deny employment or fire someone if they obtain one while employed. If the employer doesn't care, that's fine too.

For drugs, manufacturers are required to meet veterinary grade standards to keep the costs down. They have to be licensed to manufacture the drugs. For dealers, they get a "Drug Dealer's" license. They are required to keep records and can only sell to licensed drug abusers. Prices are monitored to ensure they are kept reasonable, so abusers don't have to resort to crime to pay for their drugs and paraphernalia.

Anyone getting caught outside this system goes to prison and drug rehab for decades on a first offense. Play by the rules or you are on permanent timeout. The cost of playing within the system is low and the cost of breaking the rules is onerously high.

The idea here is legalize and stigmatize drug use. Make it horribly unfashionable to use drugs. Since you have to be licensed, and it is public information, many, even most would avoid using drugs due to the potential stigma and loss of employment associated with it.

Everyone knows Hollywood is progressive. But look at the films it churns out. They tell another story.

Mainstream American movies have, for decades, been in love with guns, suspicious of democracy, ambivalent about feminism, squeamish about divorce, allergic to abortion, all over the place on matters of sexuality and very nervous about anything to do with race.

liberal hollywood does what it does. It makes movies to fulfill the weak and cowardly liberal fantasies of the idea that they, also, can be billy badass.
