Are there any real conservatives running in 08'?

So, you don't remember him being part of that coalition that stopped the Filibuster of SCOTUS Justices? Or, the one that stopped the R Leadership from changing the Filibuster rules? Or the one that actually talked about the spending? You don't remember any of those?

However, I don't really have to worry about the mass stupidity of democrats who will run out to VOTE FOR RUDY! with a stupid smile on their faces.

He can't make it through the repubican primaries. They don't realize that he's a hitler in the making (or they'd be panting over him). See, the Christian right has also bought into the simple-minded "abortion and gay marriage define liberal and conservative" mantra.

And so Rudy cannot win their votes. They too, ignorantly believe he is a "liberal". Thankfully.

Thankfully indeed. Julie's probably my first choice as Republican-whose-untimely-death-I'd-celebrate-in-private. At least among the Republican contenders. McCain, for all his many faults, isn't as authoritarian as he is.

But you're right: he's not electable. And even if he does get the Republican nomination, by some cruel twist of irony, he's got enough really rank personal baggage and a closet with enough skeletons rattling around in it that I don't believe he'd survive a national election. Unless maybe he runs against Ted Kennedy.

Bush, who ran as a conservative, has bascially discredited conservatism in presidential elections. At least in the short term.

Anyone who can say this knows little about McCain and Guillianni. In the middle of the 9-11 and the aftermath Guilliani tried to have the mayoral election postponed as being too disruptive to the situation. I mean you couldn't change horses in midstream, and no one was better equipped to handle the aftermath than Rudy himself. The only thing that stopped this illegal takeover of power was the uproar that such an idea caused in New York. And who was Guilliani's main man in New York, the guy from the prison system, Bernard Kerik whose Mafia and other crime ties have been rumored for years and is still under investigation for several questionable activities. In addition under Guillianni, the police could basically shoot blacks with impunity. How moderate, né liberal, is that? You people remind me of the old Phil Ochs song, "Love me, I'm a Liberal."
