Ukraine committed the crime of capitalism and elective government. Putin the dictator, did not want that to be so close to his kingdom. It showed Russians that a better life is possible. The west offers a better standard of living, a free press, and free elections. This is the opposite of what Putin installed in Russia. Russians were traveling there and seeing better and freer life.
