If you look at lists of democracies, we are almost always included. We are the most votes wins in the thousands of votes that go on in the country. It is just the electoral college vote that is not democratic. School boards, union votes, everything the majority wins. I think it is artificial to declare us not a democracy.
The electoral college was a giveaway to slave states to get them to join the Union.
The mega-wealthy figured out how to use the electoral college for their benefit.
If we dumped that, we may have universal healthcare, cheap high-quality education, and a smaller wealth gap.
