It turns out that the device discovered at East Midlands airport was a viable bomb using PETN which was initially thought to be printer toner. PETN is odourless, so the sniffer dogs couldn't detect it and it had to subjected to further chemical analysis.

We just got a memo today, from now on when booking travel we are told to 'make sure the name on your drivers license matches the name on your ticket exactly. ie... if your license says William, but you go by Bill, you need to make sure to use William or you will not be allowed through security.'
Seriously? Have we really gone to this level of stupidity?
Let me guess... when they see a Bill trying to pass himself off as a William... TSA thinks... 'he must be a terrorist'.
