Baby Boomers

Yep, listening to Smoke On The Water, We're An American Band, Radar Love...
funny story. I mentioned how my old gang back in the 70's used to buy block of tickets?

we all went to see Deep Purple at the old DC venue - a guy brought Seconols. and passed them around.
There were a lot of people sleeping thru a Deep Purple concert!!

Love this tweet about the Boomers. Not sure what she means about the environment but the rest is definitely true. (Of course there are many reasons for this but it's still fun to kick the Boomers)

Kim-Mai Cutler

They were born into a world with practically free higher ed, inexpensive housing, and pensions and are leaving behind a wall of crushing private and public debt, environmental degradation and a shattered state that had once enabled their upward mobility.

They were born into a world that drafted them into the Viet Nam war where many were killed or disfigured. They bought houses with mortgages that had double digit interest rates. They were born into an economy that yielded close to a zero return in stock market investments (between 1964-1981). They were born into a world with civil unrest unlike the country had ever known, with a beloved president assassinated, a presidential candidate assassinated and a major civil rights leader assassinated.
Yeah, they sure had it easy.

Compared to their parents, they still had it better. Lets be fair here.

Just what I was thinking. They hate us for our music!

Sure...they can listen to it if they want....but they never got to SEE it. Like John Lennon said about the Beatles...'If you missed it, you missed it.'. (referring to the myriad reunion rumors)

Right, I mean what the heck happened to rock music? I can barely even find it on the radio anymore.
Even my SO, who grew up listening to classic rock, soul, and blues is now cranking some horrific techno-music and crappy hip hop. I'm really not even sure what you call this genre of modern crap music. I just know it is borderline grounds for breaking up!

there a re few classic rock stations -but you really need to get Sirius radio for that.
I'm happy with You Tube around the house- lots of great live versions that never made it to album format.
play it thru a big amp.

there was no lottery until 1969.......it was put in place because of complaints that blacks were being drafted at a higher rate than whites.....every one who was drafted served two years active duty....if you volunteered you served six months active duty minimum, two years full duty, but you had to be on reserve for eight years.....most volunteers had to serve multiple active duty tours in Vietnam.....

Of course they were. Whites didn't want to send their kids to war............i.e. dump and Romney.

These are tad bits of ugly history most americans don't know about.

Keep speaking the truth about this country.

Go back to the initial point I made. Boomers growing up could go to any city where the jobs were and be able to live and even purchase. That's not the case today.

The Bay Area is not the only one can go in this country to be successful. But 20% of the country's billionaires live here. The Silicon Valley is ground zero for technology and venture capital. You don't have to like it but those are the facts.

This is written for a British audience but you should get the gist of it.

PUHLEEES....Whenever the lady and I attend a wedding/etc, we get out and kick up our heels (notwithstanding my old sports injuries to the knees/back) when '70s era dance music comes on. Odd, because when KC and the Sunshine band was all the rage, I'd never listen to that crap. But the ladies love what the ladies love...so I comply.

BUT...when that new techno garbage comes on, I can't tell when one song ends, and another begins? I make my way back to the booze, and let the girls have at it.

There are some 'classic' rock stations, but you have to suffer all the hits of the era, without ever hearing B sides. I mean....how many times can you hear 'White Room', and not yearn for something from Layla? (Other than Layla!)
