Babyboomers become homeless

Two people who live next door to each and have homes each worth (pick a number) say $3m. Depending on when they bought the homes there could be a 10X difference in the amount of property tax they each pay. The person with the low basis has far less incentive to move because any new purchase would likely have a huge property tax increase. That distorts the market and makes it less dynamic.

And you view stability as a bad thing?

I support allowing markets to operate. Prop 13, California's NIMBYism and onerous rent control rules all work against allowing the market to function naturally. And the results? We have the highest prices in the country, he have the highest homeless rate and most people can't even dream of affording a home here.

"Stability" is a term I would expect to hear from someone who has owned their home a long time in California and is a major beneficiary of Prop 13. Same justification people use for their NIMBYism.

Move to Texas. The Constitution allows states to operate on their own within the limits of the Constitution. I love Texas. Lots of freedom here. All the Social Justice Warriors move to Austin and Houston but the rest of the state is wide open.

Only weak people sit and bitch about how much they hate their state when there are 49 others to choose from.

Poor and/or stupid people give these common reasons for not leaving for better living conditions and better jobs:
1. I grew up here.
2. My family is here.
3. My job is here.

Grow a spine and leave.
