"The First Amendment doesn’t require private companies to provide a platform for any view that is out there.”

“If we do not have the capacity to distinguish what’s true from what’s false, then by definition the marketplace of ideas doesn’t work. And by definition our democracy doesn’t work. We are entering into an epistemological crisis.”

What he said, and he is correct by the way, has absolutely nothing at all to do with what you said he said, not even close

At its simplest levels he saying that when the truth doesn’t matter, knowing what is true or false is irrelevant, any exchange of ideas is impossible, and thereby democracy is challenged

What's the argument?
The First Amendment DOESN'T require private companies to provide a platform for any view that is out there.
The First Amendment lets you say almost any stupid shit that you want without going to prison.
That's what it does.
It doesn't entitle you access to any media that you don't own yourself.

I agree 100% but if you want to restrict the flow of ideas don't try and pretend you have some lofty goal of making sure people hear only the 'truth". You're more dense to believe it than the piss stain is for saying it.

I'm not on social media.
The last thing I believe is that social media has a lofty goal to tell the truth.
It was developed to help college nerds get laid.
That's the extent of its value from my perspective,
and in the 60s, we enjoyed sex without it just fine.

If you're talking about MSNBC, MSNBC pretty much leaves straight news to NBC.
MSNBC is nothing but commentary and opinion in prime time.
It usually makes sense to me, but there's always Fox if you don't like it.

There isn’t any, Soplipistic, anyone can make up their own truth, why did you think Trump lied so much, did you think such as saying his Inauguration crowd was the biggest in history even though all evidence showed it wasn’t even close was just a mistake on his part?

Trump’s lying was by design, part of his shtick, he made up his own truth, and what Obama is saying when such becomes acceptable, when Truth doesn’t matter, democracy suffers cause any exchange of ideas isn’t possible

As I said, not all that difficult, and by the way, as a tip, the personal insults are meaningless, on an anonymous vehicle it just makes the poster look small

American hero’s came home from their victories and decided america should make laws to prevent some evil people from using propaganda again



They unitedly as a nation made laws to prevent it here


Laws like the fairness doctrine


Then years later republicans ended those laws so they could create a propaganda station so they could lie to the people

Seems it is sailing right over your head, Obama is warning that when actual truth, not what an individual wants to believe is the truth, but the actual facts, don’t matter, there is no discourse, and without such, a democracy suffers
