Baseball

So, how come the teams all bombed out if the play-offs?

baseball is a high variance sport. Look at the win percentages of the NBA where it can be in the 70-75% range whereas the best best best best best best best teams in baseball MIGHT be .600 in a given year IF they are lucky and everything goes right.

Additionally, short series are the great equalizer for crappier teams. Longer series you are going to need to have the depth to pull off a win, but even a crappy team with just two good starting pitchers will be able to hold their own because the series is so short.

In fact, for the past 10 years, I believe the Sox have two wins/appearances, and that's it? No Yanks, Orioles, Rays, or Jays?

well part of the reason is we all bang heads with each other because, again, we are in a superior division and have to play each other way more. that's number one. Additionally if you were to go by just best teams in the AL making it to the playoffs, pretty much every team from the AL east would always be getting in. But our 3rd ranked team will be shit out of luck even though they could theoretically be the third best overall. (im ignoring for the moment the second retarded wildcard that has now been added which is just a joke)

we've had 5 WS appearances in the last 10 years. So yeah, every other year the AL east is in the world series. Not to mention we are also usually hogging up the ALCS (2003, 2004, 2008 off the top of my head are all AL east exclusive ALCS)
