Ben Carson compares some refugees to 'rabid' dogs

We have to vet refugees for possible terrorist. It would be completely irresponsible not to. If you find comparing terrorists to rabid dogs offensive then fair enough. But I don't see that as equivalent to saying death to America. Carson specifically said he (we) doesn't hate all dogs but you have to still vet the good ones to weed out the bad ones.

Are you pretending that Syrian refugees aren't currently vetted?

My problem in the fear-based overreaction toward something that may never happen. All refugees entering are vetted. I know some are sponsored by churches or other groups. People like Carson and Trump are only spreading hate and pandering to the worst instincts of some. Some of the stuff I've read is just insane. Our mayor said he'll welcome refugees to Pittsburgh and now he has to have more security because people on social media have been making threats against him. Is that what this country is about? If so, I'm ashamed.

It's like overreaction to ebola, people were gearing up for a nationwide epidemic. Doesn't anybody have common sense anymore?

why no.....because I know Obama would never ever contemplate bringing refugees into the country until the full 18-24 month screening process was complete......that's why we won't have to worry until 2017 that it might happen.......unless of course you suspect he might not keep his promise.........

Around 2000 Syrian refugees have already completed the process. You didn't know that?

As of September, a State Department official estimated it takes between 18 and 24 months to process such an application.

Before a refugee can even be vetted, he or she first needs to be declared eligible -- a decision typically made by the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. The U.N. high commissioner has an office in Damascus; if the office recommends resettlement, the application is processed at one of nine Resettlement Support Centers around the world.

From there, a refugee would have to undergo a security clearance check, an in-person interview, a medical screening and other steps.

According to officials, this process involves several agencies including the Department of Homeland Security and National Counterterrorism Center.

All this is done before a refugee can set foot on American soil.

The in-person interviews are conducted by U.S. officers who travel to where the refugees are located to speak to them. As of September there was a team of 17 people conducting interviews of Syrians and others in Istanbul.

After the vetting is conducted overseas, the refugees come into the U.S. at different, pre-determined points of entry. The State Department works with other agencies to determine where to resettle a refugee.

Stop making sense. Their heads are exploding.

If he was saying we shouldn't have refugees then yes I would agree with you. He said they can come just that they need to be vetted. That I'm on board with. Trump is off the deep end with his comments but his comments aren't Carson's.

This isn't about vetting refugees more thoroughly, is it?

Some cons are pretending that until they force "Obama" to start vetting refugees from Syria, there were no checks at all.

Isn't this really more good old-fashioned know-nothing nativism and religious discrimination?

Are you pretending that they weren't being exhaustively vetted already?

Re: 3rd sentence, absolutely. And I think they're trying to plant the idea that refugees aren't vetted just to ramp up distrust of Obama, despite the fact that no vetting is a lie.

IMO it won't be long until cons are agitating for boots on the ground in the ME.

Aren't they already?

We'll be seeing a lot more incidents like this, I'm sure.

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas — In wake of terror attacks in Paris last week in which the Islamic State claimed responsibility, vandals destroyed a Quran at a Texas mosque, while mosques in Florida received threatening phone calls.

In Texas, a member of the Islamic Center of Pflugerville found a torn up Quran covered in feces Monday. When police arrived, they found the destroyed Quran in front of the entrance to the mosque. Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime. The person who called police said he saw the vandalism when he arrived at the Islamic Center for morning prayer. He was unaware of any threats toward the center.

And

On Friday, threatening phone messages were left at the Islamic Society of Pinellas County in Pinellas Park, Fla., and the Islamic Society of St. Petersburg. The suspect left a voicemail at the Pinnellas Park mosque saying he was going to the center to “firebomb you and shoot whoever is there.”

Martin Schnitzler, 43, of Seminole, Fla., was arrested Tuesday and charged with using a telephone to make violent threats. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
