Bernie Sanders Filibustering Tax Compromise

I can't believe Sanders is denying the unemployed an extension of their benefits.

Democrats just don't care about the unemployed.

First, Sanders isn't denying anyone anything. Second, Sanders is not a Democrat. Third, the Republicans have opposed the extension of unemployment benefits for a few months now.

"How can I get by on one house?" Sanders said. "I need five houses, ten houses! I need three jet planes to take me all over the world! Sorry, American people. We've got the money, we've got the power, we've got the lobbyists here and on Wall Street. Tough luck. That's the world, get used to it. Rich get richer. Middle class shrinks."

This is a flat-out argument for redistribution.

People have lost their way on this one....

yes he is.... according to Dem standards, when you filabuster, you are the party of NO. By stopping the bill that contains the extension, he is clearly opposing those poor people on their 99th week of unemployment. He obviously hates the unemployed and doesn't want them to get another red cent.

yes, I know Sanders is a nutjob to the left of the Dems, but when he votes with the Dems, caucus's with the dems... it is safe to lump them all together.

Well, Sanders is a self-described socialist so I'm not certain what you were expecting from him. Second, the upper class tax cuts will require the government to borrow additional money which sums will be paid back by the general fund. That being the case, isn't it also redistribution to vote for those tax cuts.

But he isn't stopping the bill. It will be voted on tomorrow.

obviously that is false. The Reps are supporting the bill to extend the unemployment benefits. The Dems are evil and trying to deny them money.

The Republicans are supporting the compromise. They do not support the unemployment benefit extension. If the Republicans did support it, it would have been voted upon and passed a long time ago.

He caucuses with the democrats 99.9% of the time. Is there any practical reason for calling him independent, other than to save face for your precious jackasses?

Point two: Sanders is filibustering the compromise legislation, which includes extensions for UB, and which the republicans agreed to support as part of the overall compromise. Since we have not seen anything reasonably resembling compromise the last several years, look who it turns out is the REAL "party of NO!" when compromise is actually reached.

It will be interesting to see how long the far left is willing to push this issue. Are they TRULY willing to let middle and low-middle income families take a $2000-3000 tax hit, AND deny the unemployed a benefits extension for the SOLE purpose of their pitiful "taxing the rich" agenda? Just how fucking STUPID are these cocksuckers, anyway? (Damned near as brain dead stupid as their vacuum skulled supporters, I guess.)

And you think "remember in November" hit the democrats hard this year. If they actually push this beyond the new year, "remember in November" will be a renewed, and likely much larger rally cry. It's like the democrats WANT to lose. (Maybe they like it better when all they had to do was whine like 2 year olds from the minority seats.)

In talk-a-thon, Sanders skewers tax cut deal

Sanders, currently in his fifth hour of speaking on the Senate floor against the Obama-crafted tax cut compromise with Republicans, is getting lots of web buzz from filibuster enthusiasts and progressives irked at the president for cutting the deal.

An independent who caucuses with Democrats, Sanders has threatened to speak out against the extension of cuts for the very wealthy – which he called “a moral outrage” earlier this week – for “as long as possible” on the Senate floor.

“You can call what I am doing today whatever you want,” he said. “You can it call it a filibuster, you can call it a very long speech.”

and now the dems are holding the american people hostage because they are whining babies and care more about taxing the uber wealthy than helping the unemployed

I thought you didn't agree with the "hostage" analogy? By your own standard, are you now calling Democrats terrorists?

What hypocrisy....

:palm:

He caucuses with Democrats 100% of the time, but he's an independent. The practical reason for calling him an independent is that it is true.

The Senate Republicans filibustered more bills yesterday than Bernie Sanders is filibustering today. The Senate Republicans filibustered 6 times as many bills as Bernie Sanders this month. The Senate Republicans filibustered 132 times as many bills as Bernie Sanders this session of Congress.

The Senate will vote, and likely pass, the bill tomorrow. Then we'll see what the House does.

Technically, he's not even filibustering. He's just giving a marathon speech. And no, he isn't stopping the process at all. The vote is scheduled for tomorrow and Bernie was essentially yielded the floor.

Right, he's an independent and not a Democrat. In fact, in Vermont they actually have a fairly successful Progressive Party that grew out of Bernie Sanders's campaign for Mayor of Burlington and, while he is an independent, he is all but in name a member of the Progressive Party.
