I saw Russian soldiers in Ukraine carrying them. Mine was built in 1935. It is in very good condition with very little barrel wear good stock and bolt.

The Russian revolution happened and Remington and Westinghouse were stuck with thousands of rifles.
I have a friend with a Mosin-Nagant and always wondered how he happened to find it for purchase in the USA. Our
Nagant revolver comes straight from Russia, because my grandfather was an officer in the Imperial Russian cavalry.

The SVT 38/40 was pre-war (1938 and 1940 respectively). The Germans developed theirs in 1941. Their slowness was due more to how they organized infantry at the squad level than anything else.
For the US, individual riflemen were considered the heart of the squad, so giving them a semi-automatic rifle boosted the squad's firepower. The BAR was originally organized into separate specialist squads pre-war then redistributed one or two per squad around 1940 based on observations of fighting in Europe.
The Germans on the other hand centered their squad around a light machinegun based on experience with using stroßtruppen tactics near the end of WW 1. The riflemen were primarily seen as support for the machinegun so giving them a semi-automatic rifle was unimportant. The squad leader got a submachinegun more for short-range self-defense of the machinegun crew than anything.
Thus, in between the wars the Germans focused on developing a light multipurpose machinegun that really was a world beater at the time, while the US focused on a better rifle for their infantrymen and also got a world beater of a rifle out of it.

I also have several tins of ammo for the Zombie Apocalypse or if Trumpian Nazis start marching down the street after toppling the Federal government.
As I've either mentioned or alluded over the past few years, while it's good for Americans to rely upon their government to protect them, if the government is toppled by Trumpian Nazis, then Americans must be prepared to protect themselves, their families and their country against the Nazis. They can start with a Resistance movement that targets local leaders.

My survival arsenal for the impending alien invasion are 12 gauge pump action shotgun, AK-47 assault rifle, and sniper rifle.
Most important factor is ammo availability. 7.62 X39, 5.56 and 9mm are the top three on this planet. 12 ga , too maybe.....maybe.
