Iceland.

US slips down the list.

"Iceland has overtaken Norway as the world's most desirable country to live in, according to an annual U.N. table published on Tuesday that again puts AIDS-afflicted sub-Saharan African states at the bottom.

Rich free-market countries dominate the top places, with Iceland, Norway, Australia, Canada and Ireland the first five but the United States slipping to 12th place from eighth last year in the U.N. Human Development Index.

But the index, blending 2005 figures for life expectancy, educational levels and real per capita income, finds that all 22 countries falling into its "low human development" category are in sub-Saharan Africa, with Sierra Leone last.

In 10 of these countries, two children in five will not reach the age of 40, said the compilers at the U.N. Development Program. Last year's report said HIV/AIDS had had a "catastrophic effect" on life expectancy in the region."

Cool.............

forward a copy of this to the Mexican President...maybe they will redirect the flow of Illegals somewhere else!:clink:

It's generally people who don't travel who immediately say "we're the greatest in the world."

I love America, but it's not like the rest of the world is living in oppression & malaise...

And I know this is true also. So much is dependent upon the lifestyle and hobbies of individuals. I have traveled more than I like to and I think America is the greatest place in the world to live for me and what I like to do. Nowhere else in the world can I have the freedom to do the things I thoroughly enjoy doing while living the lifestyle I now live. Unfortunately I take so much of this for granted all the time.

This list is completely bogus and I can say that because Jersey isn't #1 on it. I mean come on: The Soprano's was filmed here.

no other country offers remotely close to the financial gains available in Amurica.
Limosine liberal wannabee's of course will down play that.

.

I'd agree with that, for the most part. So, that makes America the greatest country in the world if financial gain is your only motivation for living, and your only criterion for "living well."

again limosine liberal wannabee's are usually the only one who list financial opportunity so low. The rest of the world is way to poor to worry about the long list of false outrages you guys have above that.
I will say that personal freedoms have certainly taken a hit this decade and prob have a lot to do with the fall to 12th.

"again limosine liberal wannabee's are usually the only one who list financial opportunity so low"

Who said anything about "listing it low?" I'm just saying that - for most sane people - it is not the ONLY priority, and there are certainly countries where you can gain economically and probably have other priorities met equally well, if not better.

again most countries in the world would have it as top too.
Like a lot of struggling middle class turbo-libs you like to tag it "all that matters when someone brings it up"
People have been dying for decades trying to get here for "Economic Opportunity".

What are you talking about? You were the one who implied it's the only consideration.

If it's not the ONLY consideration - and we seem to be in agreement that it's not - than a country's "greatness" is totally subjective...

absolutley, family is 1,000 times more important and mines here.
If I'm ever rich enough to fly my kids to Amsterdam I might move there

I agree. Money most certainly isn't everything. I could make more money if I lived in NY/Chicago/London etc... but I wouldn't have what I personally find desirable.... the mountains... skiing, biking, rafting, climbing, hiking, camping etc.... As much as I love visiting Chicago and NYC... I would go ape shit if I had to live in either location.

I hate to be the one to break it to you.... but most of NJ sucks, Santa isn't real and there is no magic baby fairy.

Ah, Australia. No wonder we call it God's Own. The finest country in the world to live if you're not rich. Of course if you're rich it's even better :clink:
