Hmmm. Do you have in mind politicians (who are themselves elite) who claim to be fighting for the little guy (the oppressed) against the rich and powerful (aka the elites)?

Hello cawacko,
I have in mind the elites who decry elites.
They are clearly seeking the votes of the poorly educated that they may take advantage of them.
That's what I'm thinking as well though you and I could define that same statement in two very different ways.
It's a slippery slope. It's virtually impossible for a common person to rise to the highest office. It usually requires wealth and connections unavailable to Joe the Plumber.
So we are probably going to be voting for a choice of elites. <snip>

But the ones who claim 'all elites are bad except me - I'm on your side?'
That is a warning about how full of baloney that candidate is.
Elites are like anybody else. There are good ones and bad ones. They are neither all bad nor all good.
Anybody who claims they are all bad is reinforcing a false stereotype. You know it's a lie at the outset.

Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Jimmy Carter came from relatively modest backgrounds.
I don't think people like Truman, Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton or Obama came from privilege and they all made it to the Presidency. Trump's father had money but most of the elites hated Trump.
All things being equal I'd rather come from privilege than not, and many at the highest levels of power do come from a more privileged background, but it doesn't mean you can't reach the highest levels of power in this country.
Hello cawacko,
It sounds like you believe in order to be elite one has to be born into wealth?
For my whole life I have been hearing about “the elites,” it seems everyone, left and right, have “elites” to scapegoat; the rich, the intellectuals, the managerial class, Hollywood, the military, military industrial complex, DC politicians, coastal States, them, those people, etc, etc, etc
No doubt we do live to some degree in some form of plutocracy, but the term “elites” is grossly overused, it is kinda like “deep state,” doesn’t have to be defined, so amoeba like one can employe it anywhere one wants, “the elites” did it
Hello Cypress,
True, originally.
But by the time they each ran for president they were each well connected and well-off.
