Beware Of Elites Who Decry Elites

If your goal is to have a 40 year old plumber wake up one morning and decide they want to be President it's probably not happening.

What? You telling us Horatio Alger was wrong? Some on the right would label you “unAmerican” for that sentiment, although I could never quite figure out what “unAmerican” meant

Hey, if a plumber can do it then god bless them! (I'm just not holding my breath...)

Hello Cypress,

True, originally.

But by the time they each ran for president they were each well connected and well-off.

I admit, I somehow admire the fact that Poland elected a trade union-activist and Czech Republic elected a poet as their presidents.

That is something we will never see in USA.

They are invariably seeking the power of co-opting the votes of the oppressed that they may pursue more oppression and thus further their own elitism.

Was there a particular person or incident you had in mind when posting this?

I was listening to a podcast recently with a tenured Ivy League professor (which in my book makes him elite). He called out the elites for failing the people by not arresting/prosecuting bankers post the 2008 crash. Now one can argue there was nothing to be done but that's not where I'm going with this. Should I/we be wary of this (elite) professor who is calling out other elites?

Yeah, we thought we would never elect Trump. Jon Stewart laughed. I laughed with him. I'm not laughing at that thought any more.

No, not in my view. He hasn't decried elites in general. He has properly criticized some who seem to have done wrong and escaped justice. And he didn't call them elites like it was a bad word. HE was not forwarding a stereotype. That's the crux of the falsity suggested in the OP.
