Study of the New and Old Testament may be coming into public schools if the Arizona House Education Committee is able to convince the rest of the Legislature that The Bible and its Influence on Western Culture, will use Books of the Bible as part of literature and history courses.

Current Arizona law requires that all books, publications and papers of a sectarian, partisan or denominational character must be excluded from school libraries.

Is this the beginning of a trend in response to secularism?

no educated people will stop the comic books, what's next spiderman for third period?

the bible is a comic book, share the Acid Zappa you bogart

Talking dumb again drop-out ?........

The influence of the Bible on mankind and religion in general on people worldwide is profound.......and a legitimate topic for study, though I think it belongs in college only and not in lower education......

HOW it presented is where the arguments will arise.....whether its influence was for better or worse, good or bad for man........but in the end that will be up to

the people studying the subject......

As the representative of the ACLU stated, the bible or any religious text may already be used if presented in a neutral fashion. In Western Civ both the Bible and Koran are used where appropriate.

I would just like more students in the US being taught both civics and Western Civ.

I'm not arguing that studying the history of Christianity and the influence of same on the world is important. But studying the Bible is just a chance to have arguments in school, first of all what Version are they using? the original greek? Where do you define the origins of christianity and will you study offshoots such as Waldensianism or Chinese Christianity?(Which believe me is not the same thing) There are a lot of good places this could go but What I think is going to happen is the teaching of the "aproved" version, the wonders of christianity without any relation to fact.

In essence the "jesus loves everybody" version

Oh and I doubt they're going to have an Islam studies course, which has had just as massive an impact.

It's no more legitimate for high school than the Koran or Hindu study. Now if bravo would have gone to college his pagan ass could have studied the comic bible book.

Why stop there? What about the greatest philosopher that ever lived Erich von Däniken and his magnum opus Chariot of the Gods? Whilst we are about it, surely L. Ron Hubbard should be required reading in every school?

I agree, I just think it's too hard for people to give or recieve lessons in their religion neutrally, it's just too easy to slide over parts you don't like or hammer the points you do. Leave it to college, high school is not the place for religious discussions in depth and non-in depth religious discussions just promote confusion and strife.

There is an old Jesuit saying, "give me the child until he is seven, and I will show you the man".

"Hit em when they can't hit back." Is a military axiom of some merit too. The similarity is disturbing. Leave the kids alone until they actually have minds that can be made up.
