Wrong. The Interstate Highway authority was commissioned. The freeways were built over a couple of decades. It is paid for by gasoline taxes, not income taxes.

Of 1956 money, which was worth considerably more back then. Thanks to inflation, mostly by a Democrat congress and by a Federal Reserve given fiat power by a Democrat, a dollar in a dollar today is worth only 1.7 cents in 1956 dollars.
