Then when the Dems get in power and are faced with collapsing infrastructure, sky rocketing deficits and such, the GOP wail like banshees that it's all those social "entitlement programs" that are bankrupting the country. Umm, NO. The GOP has been doing this for about 40 years, around Reagan/Bush era to start (one of the perks of getting old...you were there when it happened). And while the Dems are no saints (I refer to them as "Republican light" on occasion), you don't have a similar record. Just clearing that up.

The USSR was already in decline. Remember Reagan's famous wall speech? If you want to quibble that it began 5-10 years earlier, fine. Go for it. The point is that the collapse of the Soviet Union forced the Republicans to refocus their goals.

Dutch, we were discussing the GOP "bait & switch" regarding federal spending, Not Ronnie Raygun's Soviet Union obsession. And a decade is not a quibble in that respect. A fact is a fact is a fact. If it doesn't sit well with your belief system on certain things, I can't help that.
