Big Lawns: Bad For The Environment And Racist

The furthest South I have found them is the Peconic bay in Eastern Long Island, but they are very abundant in Cape Cod and run North to at least Nova Scotia.

My grandmother's family were from Gloucester, Cape Ann, and we spent summers there until I was about 16. Soft shells, steamed in a big aluminium pot, melted butter and corn were a staple. Then my parents bought a place on Cape Cod and we discovered quahogs. Much preferred.

Steamed like soft shell?
I love them but steamers (soft shell) are much more popular here.
I do eat a lot of quahogs though, which I harvest myself.
Pies, stuffed , chowder and raw.

Yeah, steamed. That's what we grew up on. I never ate a raw one until college. After college, only raw if from a good source. A friend of mine harvested them from an estuary pond in RI and they were excellent raw.
