Biggest lies of the decade!

Not to change the subject but I've always wondered about the Conservative/Right Wing thinking when it comes to families and society.

The traditions of family, supporting the values regarding helping each other and working together is what the Conservative/Right Wing have always championed. However, when it comes to others, other families, other people, society in general, their attitude is "to hell with them".

If the idea of family working together and looking out for each other is a basic building block of society then why do they not support expanding that idea in society?

Social programs similar to how a family would function. Medical plans. Welfare plans. Daycare. Why would they not support the very ways under which families operate knowing the benefits derived?

I'm sure you're aware of this but the crux of the argument is the role government should play.

They say that's what the argument is about but they don't have any problem with the government getting involved in their pet projects. Why would they want the government to outlaw abortion if they don't like government interference? Why prohibit gay marriage?

It seems their only objection to government involvement is when the government tries to help people. If it's restricting or neglecting people they are all for government involvement.

Well on Christmas morning I'm not so inclined to get into detail about the conservative viewpoint but its not about not wanting to help people it's about the optimal way to help people. And the good thing is there ways to help people beyond only the government.

Yes, there are other ways but they are full of cracks people fall through. Community charities are great but let's be realistic. The lady who plays the church organ is going to be helped before the old guy who injured himself on a job, his wife has left him and he looks like a bum.

We all have our prejudices and our "favorites" when it comes to helping. An "anonymous", government program based strictly on requirements is the only fair way.

Like the government doesn't play favorites? Are you f'ing kidding me? Who doles out money for the various programs? Scumbag politicians that's who. Politicians who are directing money to where they think they can get the most votes.

I graduated from college man. Don't try and play me for a fool. I know damn well how politicians operate and how they give out money. You want to tell me the government plays no favorites? You have to be smoking crack on Christmas Day. That's a damn shame.

I'm more of a beverage person but that's beside the point. :)

Sure the government plays favorites but more to do with businesses and contracts. Federal and State social programs tend to treat everyone the same when it comes to requirements as opposed to how local charities operate.

The answer is simple. Conservatives no longer believe in society. They are against anything that would give middle class working people a break. Any gain for the middle class takes pennies out of Republicons corporate sponsors pockets.

You want the gov't to protect your beliefs. You want the gov't to solve your problems. You want the gov't to protect your idea of marriage and to interfere in people's lives.

You're obviously a liberal for thinking that way.
you're right....it DOES sound like a liberal.....

we do support them.....and try to protect them from the liberal programs which fuck them over.....liberals want to help people kill their unborn children.....they want to help people redefine marriage to include abnormal combinations........the liberal approach to "welfare" over the last forty years has destroyed the family structure, virtually guaranteeing that anyone who needs assistance will divorce....

What does abortion and marriage have to do with ensuring people have adequate food and housing and medical care?

As for welfare destroying the family I think I know what you're getting at. Years ago, I chatted with a neighborhood lady I'd casually known. I asked how her husband was and she explained the situation.

Her husband had lost his job and they applied for welfare. Because there was an "able-bodied" man in the house they were refused. However, if he moved out she and the children could collect welfare.

A little research at the time revealed that to be a common practice. Welfare was not going to pay a healthy, young man so more than a few families split. The man would rent a room to get a mailing address and a place to put his clothes and the wife and kids received a fair amount from welfare.

Another case involved a truck driver. The family went through a rough time and the guy had to move out in order for his family to be entitled to welfare. After taking training he started long distance trucking. Figuring he was only home a few days per month he may as well keep up the appearance he and his wife were separated.

He started off being a good family man supporting his wife and children. Then he lost his job. The government twisted the knife by having him choose between having his family and scratching out a living any way he could or forcing him to leave so they could get welfare and the kids could eat.

When he received his licenses he turned the table. Now he was making a decent living and his wife was getting welfare which was a bonus as she was a stay-at-home Mom anyway.

All that nonsense instead of just helping people.

LOL. The government sucked, so what we should do is liberally apply more government!

But yeah, I've seen that same story over many years, you see it a lot where I grew up. The even better ones are when the guy moves in, they don't talk about it or get married, he makes a ton of cash and the woman continues to collect the welfare.

The families that escaped the welfare chain almost always refused to ask for it. (I only say almost always because I don't remember any of the families who were on welfare getting out of the cycle, but I'm sure that there were some.)

WTF? you just described fraud. Are you saying that's how it should work?

The welfare systems are designed to keep people on them and to reward those who have children without marrying.

If you get a job while on public assistance, your benefits go down in greater increments than your income goes up.

interestingly, reagan, when running for governor of california, said it wasn't....(you probably know this, but i just visited his library)....he said welfare is to help those who need it, to give them job skills so they can get work....he actually did great things with welfare as governor

you're right....it DOES sound like a liberal.....

lmao...you finally admit it after calling me a liberal for supporting gay marriage

you are for a government that invades bedrooms and interfere's with people's lives....its funny, you wouldn't listen to me when i said it, but watermark nailed you

If the government stepped in before the people were destitute or got rid of the dire conditions necessary for aid people would respond favorably. What happens is people's lives are ripped apart before aid is offered so once they get the money they aren't so "government friendly".

People get behind on their rent or lose their home. Creditors start calling. There is shortage of food. All in the name of making sure someone doesn't abuse the system.

They take human beings and treat them like animals and then wonder why people act the way they do.

admit what?....that the people trying to use government to impose it's views on marriage upon everyone else sounds like liberals?.....that should be obvious to everyone....besides, you never could get it through your gradually thickening skull that I called you a liberal because you used mindless arguments, not because of the foolish positions you endorsed......

while your at it, I'm all for keeping government out of bedrooms and keeping bedrooms out of courthouses, where gays and liberals seem intent on imposing them.....

in short, if you think WM 'nailed me' you are still a mindless idiot.....and yes, that does tend to make you look like a liberal.......
