A 14-year-old boy from the Louisville area was shot and killed early Tuesday morning in Panama City Beach, Florida, with his stepbrother alive but also wounded by gunfire, officials say.
The Panama City Beach Police Department said the shooting happened about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday near the Shores of Panama resort, a property on the Gulf of Mexico in the popular spring break destination.
A city spokeswoman told The Courier Journal the shooting took place on the beach near the resort on Thomas Drive and that a local man in his 30s shot the two stepbrothers, both 14 years old and from the "Louisville area."
"It appears that the suspect who has been arrested had lived previously in the Louisville area as well," said Debbie Ingram Ward, Panama City Beach's director of communications.
Later Tuesday morning, a police department news release said Christopher Lawrence Cox, 37, of Panama City Beach, was arrested and charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
