IMO, the best solution is to reduce the size of DC to the Congress, WH, Treasury and monuments then give the rest back to Maryland.

As you know when you get outside that area you are showing things get a little dicey in DC as it is. I tend to agree.

When it was all woods and a few defensive forts, that was okay, but now, precisely because so many people do live in the region, I do agree with their need to have the protection and rights of Statehood.

That said, I am strongly against making Washington DC a state. The best solution, IMHO, is to split off the residential areas back to their original state, mainly Maryland and possibly some to Virginia. Keep the center of the Federal government free of any one state, even their own.
