Bloomberg Backs Plan to Limit Arrests for Marijuana

The big picture is that people won't be arrested for marijuana possession. Your parade of horribles isn't "the big picture." It's paranoia.
right. I remember when the news stated that cops would no longer arrest for possession of small amounts. I said then that it will continue to happen because cops make money off the war on drugs and arrests continued to happen. Then Ray Kelly wrote a directive to stop arresting for the public display.......and it was ignored. I said again that not one single cop will ever get punished for violating this directive from their boss and guess what? nobody has been reprimanded for ignoring their boss. and now you idiots think that it's better to be cited than arrested and I tell you now that you'll see either cops arresting these people for some other BS charge or arresting them for failure to pay the fine they've been given for still displaying their small amount. let me know when it's no longer paranoia.

You're just wrong on this one. Cops in NYC are overwhelmed as it is. This change is as much for budgetary reasons (the cost of incarceration) than anything, and everyone else is right - change has to start somewhere. You don't make marijuana legal overnight. This is nothing but a good thing for anyone who values liberty and thinks the war on pot is a complete waste of time & unjust.
