blowing up the moon...

"That minor variant of a minnow may be a key part of an ecosystem.".....

or it could be a minnow with one more yellow spot on it's back than all the other minnows....besides, the last time I looked, farmers were a key part of an ecosystem too......

Yes they are. But the question is not whether ALL farmers will cease to exist. If we do not allow those particular farmers to do whatever they want in order to grow their crops, will our food supply be seriously damaged? No.

But a specific variant (and I doubt the yellow spot is all there is to it) of an animal may screw up the entire ecosystem in that area.

And in 5 years they will say it can wait 5 more, and 5 more.

There have been people screaming that the money spent on NASA should be used elsewhere since I can remember.

The 2009 federal budget includes $515.4 billion dollars for the Dept of Defense. NASA's budget for teh same time period is $17.4 billion.

Rather than shut down NASA, why not cut the military's budget by 5%?

That would save us over $25 billion.

At a time when this adminstration can't get REAL healthcare reform done, and at a time of huge unemployment, dwindling resources, and trillions spent bombing actual people, there is no justification for us spending untold money bombing the fucking moon.

How can we be sure that unintended consequences won't be a result of our actions?

In these times, the budgets of the military complex AND NASA should be cut.

hey, if you're willing to accept without evidence that the farmers are insignificant to the our ecosystem, why do the minnows get an assumption of significance?.......

sucks to be a scarce mineral sensitive to heat with the rare property of providing unlimited energy while curing cancer that happens to only be found in one four mile wide deposit on the moon......

So your argument is basically "there might be magic!"

Your belief that any one mineral would be thinly distributed on one part of the moon, when the entire solar system is made out of the same stuff, just belies you're ignorance as to how science works.

in plain English....since we don't know WHAT is there, you can hardly claim it will have no impact.....

We do know what's there. Rock, possibly ice.
