For some weird reason, when it comes to stuff like this, I rely on the data and findings of actual scientists, rather than message boarders.
According to the latest OCS National Reserves Estimate, the mean UTRR for the inner shelf of the Gulf is only about 8% of the oil reserves.
That means almost all the Gulf oil reserves are in the outer shelf; i.e. in deeper water. Who could have predicted?

so in BP's case....it is not the deep water drilling, it is their gross negligence??...i agree if so
let me ask you this....do you support the moratorium that has put thousands out of jobs? if you do, how long should it last? i have no problem with some amount of time in order to ensure compliance with safety regs....but an all out moratorium seems a bit much, especially given that obama has allowed other current deep drilling to continue....seems more of a political move than an actual safety move, as you could check and require new safety guidelines as the drilling continues, unless they are already below the sea floor and then you could require the relief well
What we really need to do is require parallel drilling of relief wells so that if the fit hits the shan we have immediate relief, not 5 months of gusher while they drill the relief well...
