British Poison

Let's hope that you will be supporting the Ecuadorian government's case against Chevron-Toxico for $19 billion for massive pollution and toxic waste in the rainforest or will you claim that it is cultural imperialism to comment!! Americans seem to care more about brown shrimps than they do about brown people.

About the Campaign

For over three decades, Chevron chose profit over people.

While drilling in the Ecuadorian Amazon from 1964 to 1990, Texaco – which merged with Chevron in 2001 – deliberately dumped more than 18 billion gallons of toxic wastewater, spilled roughly 17 million gallons of crude oil, and left hazardous waste in hundreds of open pits dug out of the forest floor. To save money, Texaco chose to use environmental practices that were obsolete, did not meet industry standards, and were illegal in Ecuador and the United States.

The result was, and continues to be, one of the worst environmental disasters on the planet. Contamination of soil, groundwater, and surface streams has caused local indigenous and campesino people to suffer a wave of mouth, stomach and uterine cancer, birth defects, and spontaneous miscarriages. Chevron has never cleaned up the mess it inherited, and its oil wastes continue to poison the rainforest ecosystem.

Today, Chevron is a corporate criminal on the run. It has been found guilty by Ecuadorian courts and ordered to pay $19 billion. The company is now running from an international legal dragnet to force the company to pay for the vast task of cleanup and remediation of the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle. The Ecuadorians have filed lawsuits in Canada and Brazil to seek seizure of Chevron's assets for this purpose, and more lawsuits in other nations are expected soon.

Change the subject much?

What is your reason?

Same as it has always been the umpteen times you've asked before, I, and a great deal of my fellow countrymen, don't see why BP is taking all the flak when Halliburton and Transocean stay in the background and say nothing. Did your former drinking cause you to have memory lapses?

They both settled big time with bp. Bp is the one admitting criminal activity to Congress. They had a dogshit safety culture, and they better have learned from it.

Tom, the left would do the same thing if GM and VW both released cars the pumped out huge percentages of PPBs of toxic fumes into the environment. They would seek government support to GM from the fallout of consumer confidence and threats to the Union, while demonizing those evil VW execs who placed profit over American lives and environment. Then they would proceed to buy more foreign cars (although not VW, of course), because Americans can't be bothered to actually buy Big 3 cars.

Start a thread about Halliburton. I'd be all in on that. This one is about BP's transgressions.
Does your current douchebagedness cause you to act douchey?

Tom loves wallowing in an unfounded feeling of superiority, both cultural and personal. This story causes his world to tilt on its axis and he lashes out in confused, muddled, response.

Bullshit. Not sure about Transocean's ultimate culpability in this, but Halliburton is dripping with sleaze and always has been, in most lefty eyes.

I think Tom has been pretty fair in his dealings with us. Low is the Brit who thinks England is God's gift to mankind and that America is evil incarnate populated by adolescents and religious folk.
