An aviation attorney predicts families of the victims in the fatal mid-air collision over D.C. will sue both the U.S. government and American Airlines.

The disaster, which saw an Army Black Hawk collide with an American Airlines regional jet, killed all 67 people aboard.

Legal experts say the lawsuits will likely focus on the Army’s operation of the helicopter and air traffic control oversight by the FAA.

Investigators are still determining what led to the first major U.S. commercial airline crash since 2009.

A U.S. Coast Guard crane is being brought to the Potomac River crash site to help reach victims trapped in wreckage inaccessible to divers.

The crane, previously used in the Biden Administration's Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in March 2024, is en route from Baltimore and will be used to cut and lift sections of the aircraft to allow divers safe access.

Overnight, rescue teams will continue using sonar technology to search the area, preparing to deploy divers as needed.

Crash investigators have recovered both the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder from the American Airlines plane involved in the deadly DC collision, NTSB confirms.

As for the U.S. military helicopter, officials believe it also had recording devices, but they haven’t been recovered yet.

Either the NTSB or the Defense Department will analyze them once found.
