CA Bans Gay Conversion Theory for Minors

I'd make the argument that a good amount of the time people who "know" they are homosexual are latching onto an identity. Part of the growing phase is the self finding part, it's one of the things that makes teens crazy. On the upside somebody who claims they're homsexual is far less annoying than somebody who claims to be budhist or vegan. I'm sticking by my choice over chromosomes position and you can stick with yours.

Since they both end up in the same place of "Let them marry and do what they want."
The only thing that make teens crazy is having pressure put on them to conform to someone elses ideas...ie a gay child being beaten into submission by a parent or other teens for being gay. You are wrong in so many ways. I feel sorry for any child that comes near you.

As far as I am concerend sexuality is on a spectrum. The link I posted said women are almost always bisexual. But I was asking a question of him, as I did not expect he would believe so.

I think I mangled some of the terminology, but the suspected genetic markers are not deterministic. They only make it more likely.

If people would be honest sexuality is often more than the narrow christian variety. The spectrum is wide and runs deep. These poor repressed fools think all of that is immoral and want to enforce their view on everyone.

Yeah, most guys wouldn't admit that they get a warm fuzzy when they see Bush in jeans, but then Dixie is a modern man.

I wish Gary Johnson was as sexy as Ron Paul, but he's just not doing it for me yet.

Is that supposed to make me feel bad? Don't have any kids, not interested in having kids, I remember my childhood clearly, and my dad was and is a far better person than I am.

Ironically enough though You're kind of making my point, parents screw up their kids, kids try to get past it, find themselves, fail to find themselves, and then they in turn screw up their kids, sometimes in the same way, sometimes in a different way, and then try to make up for it with the grand kids, the process is called life.

As an interesting follow on question, Is one of the things I'm wrong about that gays have rights? Or that they should be treated like anybody else no better no worse? How bout that they deserve the right to marry and adopt?

I'm just curious, since I get so many things wrong, should I just give up on tolerance and go straight to bigot? I know it's a short step, hate everyone who doesn't echo every single belief I have, insult differences, despise people who disagree and try to hold the high moral ground while every action I make erodes it away. I mean, if I'm wrong about so many things, I guess that's the next logical step.

Of course it is and it's used to make money by religious zealots. How does this get into this other area other than the usual suspects making a paranoid conjecture about it being 'misused'... military style camps for juveniles have already been implicated in abuse how does this law possibly have any relation to the abuse of homosexual youth by religious bigots?

It's a good law BTW...kudos to California once again for being ahead of the curve!!!

Ahead of the curve, like denying overtime and rest periods to 200,000 workers?

I'd settle for you simply stating what, exactly, is your problem with this new law? The rest of your implications you can keep.

His argument(if I got it right) wasn't that gay reform camps aren't crap, but that the law could be pushed beyond that into areas it wasn't marketed as covering. What about Juvenile Detention? a camp where they attempt to reform behavior that they consider bad and which others might consider a product of "wiring".

Yeah, those are usually pretty stupid too. But they are punishment for a crime and they are not telling people to reform something that is a fundamental part of their identity. You would HAVE to be a prick (not saying you are) to compare sexual desires as being as integral to identity as is the desire to take a joy ride.

that is not true. there are boot camps where parents send their kids and the kids have not committed any crime.

Because, being angy and possibly violent is the same as liking people of the same sex?

I don't see anything in there that says this is a bootcamp. The guy in the back ground does not seem to be yelling, he's not wearing some stupid hat, that says "I am a dickhead." He actually seems somewhat friendly, but concerned.

no it is not the same. and since you read the link, you can see it is not just for angry and possible violence, it can be depression. there are some people who do believe homosexuality is a behavior disorder. like i said...slippery slope.

to me, boot camp and reform camps are the same thing.

Parents are too easily convinced by some ignorant faux-Christian pastor that 'gay' can be 'cured'.

As if left-handed can be cured...
