Campaign 08, The way I see it

Because I believe energy is our number one issue... the most serious problem facing the future.

Candidates should be running with it not from it. It is a solid win ... Its about National Security, Its about freeing us from the shackles of an Industry where 60% of our dependency is coming from regions that are in perpetual disarray. Its about a cleaner environment and creating new industries and new technologies .. its a win win.

Another false assumption on your part Klaat. Most of our foreign oil comes from Canada, Mexico and Venesuala. Canada is hardly in disaray and most of the disaray that you see in Venezuala and Mexico are a direct result of US intervention with their national policies. Although I agree with you on principle that it's in our national interest to break away from oil dependency it's most certainly not a win-win political issue. Hell oil althernatives for energy are available right now and the infrastructure to support them can be built rapidly, as long as the American people are willing to pay the equivalant in BTU value of $3 to $4/ gallon of gas. You raise the price of fuel to the equivalent of $4/gallon and see how popular you'll be.

Unfortuntately, when it comes to this issue, most Americans are hipocrits. They want their Big SUV run with plenty of cheap fuel and God help you if you take that away from them. It's like the 11th ammendment, though shalt have cheap fuel!

Oh I agree..it is broken... Im talking about the solutions put forth (by the Dems). Allowing the Government to become the Administrator and/or Insurer is Socialism...to the umpteenth degree.

Using Government to investigate, Reasearch, Develop and find real solutions without becoming US Health Care...is the way to go...and the link I provided outlines a brilliant plan.

So ..Im not being disingenuous... I just dont trust the plans outlined by Hillary and the rest of the bunch....
Hey Klaatu! How are ya?

No one has that "Plan" to have a single payer program in the Democratic front running as far as I know?

Hillary's plan is NOTHING OF THE SORT....it is corporatism and capitalistic in the least :) so where are you getting this "socialized" single payer plan of the Democrats from? Who's plan is it? Maybe I missed it, which is possible....
-------------------------------------------------------------------

But even so, why are there middle men like insurance companies, adding maybe 35% to the cost of healthcare, in our country? I don't view healthcare as selling any widgit in a capitalistic society.

Oh, and Klaatu...

If healthcare is like any widgit out there...

it would be, (estimated of course):

$100 cost of the hospital/doctor
and to make a minimum profit...

sold to the insurance company for $200
and for the insurance company to make a profit....

sold to the patient or employer of the patient for $400

There is a 50% cost in there that does not have to be there or in positive terms a 50% cost savings..., my 35% figure in the post before this was estimating that it would cost the usa 15% to process the paper of that 50% initially saved. And keeping the hospitals private businesses or non profits, not government run.

Nice try Klat, you should have taken economics though
energy is half the percentage fo the family budget that it was in the seventies.

Actually, Care, your figures are about right. If we halved the cost of our healthcare system, Americans would be paying just about as much for healthcare as other nations. There's a lot of waste in our system, and a lot of the money goes to useless middle men.
