Lol, I don’t always think of black people, in fact I personally never think of blacks as monkeys, but in this case his opponent is a black man. He was an idiot for using the term in speaking about his opponent even if he didn’t intend it to be racists.

We have voted for the party on the left for decades, it's white people who keeps voting for the racist right.
