Can the country be unified?

It can.

But the problem is that too many Americans do not believe in democracy.

That is the problem. You cannot unify a nation if a large minority does not even want a democracy.

Do you really think that's the problem or are you just being pithy? I believe that most Americans wholeheartedly believe in democracy. I also believe that the two-party system has been manipulated to catastrophe. Money controls politicians. Politicians care more about reelection than policy improvements. The system is broken, but I still have hope in the American population (minus the Trumpists).

the country has never been unified in its history the unity thing went out the window when the United States bought Catholic Louisiana and it's been non-unified ever since. The country is in the process of traditioning from the old school Christian values to the new school human values. The idea that fundamentalist Christians will ever unify with atheists is absurd. The idea that lgbtqia will ever unify with people based on hate is absurd.

I have been called your sock a couple of times. This is the first time I have seen you (I think), so I thought I should say hello.

Lets hope that the fundamentalist Christians die off, and don't get replaced.

That's silly. Fundamentalist religion will persevere for many more centuries. It's the only way stupid people can survive in the real world.

You have no idea what the "Enlightenment" was.

From 1932 to 1937 Joseph Stalin declared the 'five-year plans of atheism' and the LMG was charged with completely eliminating all religious expression in the country. Many of these same methods and terror tactics were also imposed against others that the regime considered to be its ideological enemies.

Dead serious. Ask any right winger on this forum. They opposed democracy.

We don’t have a democracy. We have a constitution and a constitutional republic and some democratic institutions and processes.

Too many progressives look at the constitution as an impediment. They’re always looking for ways to finagle their way around it or turn it into a ‘living document’.

oh, let me guess......only YOU can define the real definition of democracy...........and what it means to be unified...........am I right?

Stalin has nothing to do with the Enlightenment.

Older atheists often become believers adding to the disparity between the two groups.

From the article...

It’s an older article but the truth seems to remain constant. That as unbelievers age, many more of them become believers than the other way around. It is something I constantly research.

I agree completely with the article but the only thing I would point out is that the distance from religion by the younger generations is far far more now than it's ever been

Yes, you hate democracy.
