Can the country be unified?

True, but parties come and go. I think the reason there are only two is because of the dynamics of the rules (i.e. the Constitution). It's not that there is a limit to two parties, it's just how the dynamics work out.

This is why people who seek to destroy one party or another are idiots; another party will rise like a phoenix from the ashes.

IMO, the sooner the Republican party burns itself to the ground, the sooner a reasonable conservative party can take its place.

I'm fine with that. I don't want unfettered-by-an-opposition-party liberalism/progressivism any more than I wanted unfettered conservatism. A balance is best.

Putin wants Biden. He said so. He wanted Hillary too. He said so.
Of course he does.

Putin is smart and an excellent intelligence officer. Smart, sane and educated JPP members will recall that Putin's Russia hacked both sides, and continues to work at it, but only released intel on the Democrats in 2016 for his own purposes. That doesn't mean Putin just tossed all the intel he has on the Republicans or that he won't use it, especially what he knows about Trump.

but there was a truth there. the church was wrong. whole corrupt idiot societies can be wrong. that doesn't mean there's no truth.

Dutch Uncle is being wrong again. 2+2=4 is not a truth. It is a math equation. It comes from a set of axioms and proofs extending those axioms. This particular statement is also making assumptions, such as being used in a base 4 numbering system or higher.

No such thing as a balance. Both parties are controlled by an oligarchy.

Oooh. Bad divorce?....or never been in a successful marriage?

The oligarchy thing is a completely different subject matter. Maybe I misunderstood you; do you mean "Balance is good and necessary, but can't be done with both parties controlled by oligarchies"? In that case, I'd agree 100%.

A good woman with a good husband who have good children? What?! You hit life's jackpot!

If you and Mr. Owl were able to get the neighbor's wheels turning, you deserve a medal. I completely realize how criminally negligent and dishonest Fox News is in its broadcasting. I try to watch it from the top of the hour once or twice a week. Sometimes I make it 30 minutes. Sometimes I make it the full hour. I just like to know, like you said, what we're up against. Usually, however, when I try to explain facts and figures to a Trumpist, armed with the knowledge of what "information" they have been spoon fed, I get nothing. I may as well be discussing politics, economics, or science with a tree leaf.

Same here. Occasionally Fox manages to actually report on a story in a "fair and balanced" way. In general though their viewers are given half-truths, plausible-sounding untruths, and only part of the story particularly if the issue is something that is political or has been politicized by the Glorious Cult Leader -- like COVID, masks, and so on. When it comes to this pandemic, what they've done borders on the criminal. Everywhere there is a Reichtard, they are *still* claiming that 1) the statistics on mortality and morbidity are false, 2) the WHO/CDC/Fauci are lying, 3) it's no worse than the flu, 3) the death rate is only 1%, and so on and so on. *This* is what has led to our current health catastrophe. No doubt you've already seen many posts here repeating this nonsense.

What is scary now is that apparently Fox is just not partisan enough for the Cult, which is turning to the more unhinged outlets like OANN, Newsmax, Breitbart. And now they even have their own little fact-free social media paradise called Parler, because Facebook and Twitter won't let them lie anymore. Or as we refer to it

You're not wrong when calling out people on the right for whom Fox News isn't enough. However there's a definite irony in a liberal doing so. As a liberal you can go through much of your daily routine and not be exposed to conservative thought. From MSNBC and CNN to the New York Times and Washington Post to PBS and NPR a liberal can stay in their bubble. Hell, in the SF Chronicle the sports writers, the food critics, the architectural critic let alone the op-eds writers all infuse their liberal politics in their regular writing. You watch shows like Saturday Night Live and you're not getting right-wingers hosting, we all know the politics of SNL. And as has been discussed earlier ITT, Universities are dominated by liberals and liberal voices.

Echo chambers aren't good for anyone and lead to more polarization and liberals participate in it just as much as anyone on the right.

There will be some new parties coming up the scales

The Republican Party is now Russian owned

Unless trump starts his own party the Republican name belongs to him

What party will the never trumpets start

That assures republicans won’t be winning elections

Putin wants Biden. He said so.

Dear fucking idiot

A republic is a democracy if it’s based on the voters choice

If people get to vote to decide who represents them then that is a democracy

Fuck you very much

WRONG.

A democracy has no constitution. It is vote by the people, directly, on everything. It is mob rule.
A republic has a constitution. That constitution defines the government, gives it specific authorities, and declares how it's officers are elected, and how long they serve for.
The United States is a federated republic. That means it has layers of constitutions, each defining it's own layer of government.

Cite it. Because what you said is false--give actual evidence.

The Constitution of the United States. The constitutions of the several States. The constitutions of each county. The constitutions of each city. A republic is government by constitution. The United States is a federated republic. Democracies have no constitutions. It is mob rule. It is an unstable form of government, usually dissolving fairly quickly into an oligarchy or dictatorship. Athens dissolved into an oligarchy. There are currently no democracies anywhere in the world.

Apathy and stupidity only applies to the voters; and they were apathetic and stupid when the country was formed, too. I think what has changed more dramatically in 244 years is human technology and cunningness in using it. It's not stupidity that doomed us. It's intelligence and the absence of morality/standards/ethics. Term limits weren't needed in the 18th century because legislators ran modest campaigns, went to the capital for a couple of months each year, legislated, and then went back to their real lives to do their real jobs. When their civic duty had been fulfilled the community would find another volunteer. Now that we have international commerce, multinational corporations, instantaneous global communication, the internet, and unlimited money influence in politics, the entire system has been manipulated, warped, and broken. People build lifelong careers in office. They do that by selling their votes to corporate interests and the interests of ultra-rich individuals. They run campaigns that never end and hire full-time, year-round staffs of dozens of people. Term limits is only one of many steps that need to be taken, but it's a good one.

Requires an amendment to the Constitution of the United States. You want it? Campaign for it.
