Can we please stop the JFK comparison BS with Obama?

Hey Black what did you think of Rev. Lowery's invocation... I thought it was great!

To avoid watching the inauguration, I googled his bendiction later.

Lowery was Lowery and great as usual. He touched on key themes and did not shrink from expressing the evil within us as a nation.

Lowery embodies everything that was wonderful about Dr. King.

.. and as usual, he always brings a laugh and a smile to those who hear him.

It has been a blessing to know him. I put my hand on his arm one day and he said, "What's wrong." I told him touching him was the closest I would ever get to touching Dr. King. He said, "I knew you was crazy."

What I did not want to hear was Aretha Franklin sing. When I was growing up she had the most beautiful voice in the world .. but it's gone.

Aretha, in the name of God and all that is good .. please give it up.

How do you figure? He was quite astute at national security and foreign policy. He handled the Cuban Missile Crisis exceptionally well.

Of course he gets romanticized by the proles, but he is not entirely without accomplishment.

The Cuban Missile Crisis happened because of his own failed policy. You don't get to celebrate something like that in my book.

Other than that, he handled nothing else competently. Kudos for the tax cuts - that's about it.

What are you blaming for the Cuban Missile Crisis? His flexible response doctrine?

Even Kennan advocated it. Kennedy essentially pursued the doctrine of containment as developed by Kennan and expanded by Eisenhower during New Look. His only radical departure from precedent was making greater use of conventional forces than Eisenhower did.

Eisenhowers New Look was the one thing we did right prior to Reagan. Who basically brought it back into play and won with it.

The Cuban Missile Crisis only happened because we (JFK) botched an attack on Cuba meant to overthrow him. Either we should have made peace with Castro or invaded Cuba (which the Soviets could not have protested, given Hungary). Instead, we went with the moronic Bay of Pigs, minus close air support and military units assisting the rebels.

Yeah the Bay of Pigs was certainly not our finest moment militarily.
It also tempted the USSR, who finally succumbed to the temptation, to place missiles into Cuba because it made us appear indecisive and unwilling to support action correctly.

Without the Bay of Pigs being so terribly run (Eisenhower's plan included air support which was not given during this operation), there never would have been the missile crisis.
