Can you impeach a former president ?

If the Senate convicted Trump with the effect of banning him from future office Trump would have the right to appeal on the ground that Congress exceeded its Constitutional power in convicting him after he had left office, and the SC would rule on the question.

Supreme Court already ruled that there is no right to appeal. Nixon v. US, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously that when the Constitution said the Senate had sole power, it meant no appeals.

I am completely serious when I say that an appeal to the Supreme Court is going nowhere. We are used to other parts of the system, where the Supreme Court is the final arbiter. This is one of the exceptions to that.

Maybe in 2016 there were a few who voted for trump to spite the moderates, but I doubt there were many in 2020. In 2016, it could seem like a joke. In 2020, it was all too serious, and would take treasonous amounts of spite.
Yes. The '20 numbers proved that. My angle was that anyone who might be on the fence about trump will know a lot more about him after his myriad legal issues on the horizon.

I used to fear I would go from Alzheimer's, but then I realized I love to watch TV, and never have the time to do it... Maybe that would work, and maybe not.

The key, IMO, is regular checkups and listen to the doctors. Sure, if it's something serious, get a second opinion but be forewarned.

We can learn a lot from our parents, both good and bad. In this case, I learned to not wait until it was too late. To have a couple of plans at the ready.

It's like fire insurance or owning a sidearm. I hope to never have to use either and do not fret about using either, but I'm ready should the need arise.

Trump's star might take awhile to completely fall, but it's falling.

He's doing an amazing job at that, but that's been his forte in business for decades.

Like all of us, he's aging. All of his mental disorders are now combining with poor health due to a lifetime of largesse and lack of fitness. His addiction to some stimulant like Adderall is having ramifications too.

He won't recover.

On top of that you can stack the severe stress he's suffering right now because his delusions re. being adored by everyone are being destroyed. He honestly cannot believe that he isn't the beloved character that his family pretends (for the inheritance) that he is. That alone will kill him unless he gets to hold Klan rallies with his adoring fans.

Unfortunately, he has to pay for them now.

I've been making sacrifices to the God of Strokes that a CVA may smite Trump. Maybe I need to increase the amount of burning embers and toss in a lamb's leg for better results.

If Trump had to testify in person, we would not have to make a rule banning him from office. He would show who he is to the masses.
However, we are entering unexplored territory with this procedure. Trump has been impeached the second time. That part is over. But we do not know a lot of things that are coming up. Trump is not the president. The chief justice "runs" a presidential impeachment. Does he sit over an ex-president's trial? Nothing about this is defined. They will probably have to meet and iron out the procedures before they begin.

Unfortunately, genetics has a lot to do with it. I think people don't get diagnosed early because they just think that they're aging normally, and getting forgetful. Maybe a little denial mixed in.

Some say mental calisthenics helps.

Like arguing politics on message boards.

LOL. Bad karma. I'm still convinced that he has frontotemporal dementia. His odd posture is a sure sign, coupled with the severe psych issues. His inability to navigate mild declines, and his trouble drinking with one hand are also giveaways.
Best if we let him stew in his own little hell, and casually note the news when he finally goes off the deep end. I don't think it will be too long, as he's basically destroyed the trump brand. He can't handle that.

The Nixon case isn’t applicable in that it was about trial procedure and not, as this case would be, the meaning of the impeachment clause. Your argument if upheld would mean Congress could, right now, impeach and convict Obama or Bush or Clinton or Carter, absurdity notwithstanding.

That stuff is set in stone. He still doesn't even have a defense team.

But the testimony you reference will indeed take place in numerous civil suits that are on the horizon.

 Let's hope so. :)

I'm content to let the Gods of the Fates determine karma, but it never hurts to put in a request. :)

Where he'll be in a year is anyone's guess, but I'm guessing health will put a damper on his public appearances.

Well, you are pretty stupid, so I can see why you wouldn't want to challenge me.

Now read through the thread and educate yourself. If you weren't such a moron, you would be embarrassed to make the claims that you have.

You aren't saying anything to challenge, that was my point.

You are putting out a lot of words but just rambling on about irrelevant crap.

For someone who talks so much how is it that you can't say anything.

Please put me on ignore before I catch the case of stupid that you have.

Just talking to you makes me need a shower.

Speaking of stupid, did you hear the psychobitch Trinnity has been forced to shut down her website by the Feds? She's under charges.

Who do you think would take it over if she goes to prison?

trump starts out seeming like a joke, and then every day he seems more and more serious.
